Cassini-Soldner projection and Geographic Coordinate System   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #2773 of 3318 |
Dear everyone

Does any one know whether a speific Geographic Coordiante System is required
when creating a spatial reference using the Cassini-Soldner projection?

I am currently in the process of creating a spaital projection in ArcGIS for
a scan of an old six-inch map. I have the coordinates for the centre of
origin but I'm not sure about which Geographic Coordinate System I should be
using. I believe the Israeli Cassini Soldner used the Clarke 80 Modified but
I don't know if the same applied to the OS.

All this is being done to avoid going near copyrighted OS data. I believe if
I geo-reference my maps using OS digital data I am then tied into OS
regulations as to what I could do with my geo-referenced out of copyright
maps at a later date.

Kind regards

Timothy Langner

... Given the above comments I have to say that the Landmark mapping works tolerably well when used with a modern OS Mastermap overlay - features usually agree...

OSGBI 1858 could be the Liverpool datum. The first O.S. selected datum point in 1840 was 100 feet below a bench mark on St. John's church, Liverpool, and a few...
