There is no 'article on the subject, but a guide to symbols did appear on the
index sheets which accompanied the 6-inch sheets for each county. But I don't
know if an example of this is available on-line!

Subject: [ordnancemaps] (Fwd) Legend for Ordnance Survey Maps from the 1830s

Anyone help ?
Hello,
I recently purchased some of the Ordnance Survey Memoir series for
Ireland. I understand no legends were made for the early Ornance Survey
Maps, but hoped I could find an article in which some of the symbols are
discussed (what is a dotted line, what is a line of dashes and dots, a
zig-zag line, etc.) .
I didn't find one among your publications. Do you know of any?
