Hi Brian,
I posted a similar query about this mystery some months ago.
I have found on the web, a lake Angikuni (spelt with a 'g')located in
the Nunavaut territory of northern Canada.
I then trawled the web to find out anything official regarding the
story of the dissappearance of 1,000 eskimos in the 1930's.
Result? A complete and utter blank.
I have searched the Canadian archives, the Canadian Mounted police,
the Nunavaut territories website etc. etc. etc.
I found absolutely nothing.
I even e-mailed the Canadian Mounted police...no reply.
A colleague of mine is a native Canadian and has an active interest in
these stories.
Mind you, he never heard of the Anjikuni mystery.
He asked a very good friend of his, who was an Alaskan bush pilot for
may years, and would have, in my colleagues words 'known about it
because in that part of the world there is nothing else to do but tell
stories on long winter nights!'
and guess what?
he never heard a thing about it either.
In summation, until someone can produce a newspaper or authenticated
archive record of this occurence..I have to conclude that the Angikuni
mystery, for now anyway, is a load of pre-fabricated horse shit.
You would imageine that the dissappearance of a whole main village of
eskimos would have made national news, particularily if the RCMP got
involved!!
