Hi All,
I am just writing to see if anybody might have any info on the Spencer
Family of Naunton, Worcs. This is my wife's family and we have gone
back to 1700 when they first arrived in Ripple from Kidderminster. It
has always been a bit of a job trying to find out the exact home in
Naunton where they were farmers, if anybody might be able to help I
should very grateful.
Many thanks
Chris Scott

Hi Phil

Not all the surnames have been moved yet so they should appear soon. At this
time of
year it is a matter of finding time as there is only me to do everything.

All the photos can also be accessed on the parishmouse flickr site at
http://www.flickr.com/photos/parishmouse/

The photos on flickr are at a much higher resolution and many of them are the
original
photos and are, of course, free to download.

Must go now as am still struggling to get dinner as we have had a long day
having to go
back to Worcestershire for a dentist appointment.

Hi Phil,

As an interim for SOME items, you may find them on THE WAY BACK MACHINE.
I looked the other day and some Parishmouse stuff was there up to mid
2007.

Cheers

Thanks Sally - I just wanted to make sure. I've now added another
branch of my Dowdeswells in Surrey and will add more later today.

I have looked at the Lost Ancestors page - another good idea!

Hi Maggie

Yes of course you can add whatever names you want. The only reason there is
only stuff
for Glos, Worcs and Dorset is that those are the only ones I have had time to
transfer yet.

Have been rather busy today with the animals and what time I have had for the
site I have
been trying to set up a blog and re-direct the list of new additions from the
main site to
the blog so it is easier for people to see what is new ... a bit like the old
version we had to
leave behind due to the bug in the software that wouldn't let me add any more
transcriptions!

Anyway, I am getting there but it has felt like I am going round in circles at
times.

I added a Lost Ancestors database ( as per Mike's suggestion) late last night
that you
should also be able to add any entries you want to and there is also the links
that again
anyone can add links to. I added a few just to get us started. I also moved
some more of
yours and Kaye's photos over to the groups.

Anyway, better go now and have another wrestling match with the blog. When I
have it
sorted I'll let everyone know and there will also be a link on the main site.

Hi Sally,

A small query - can I add names to the surname list from any county? I
noticed that most are from Gloucestershire/Worcestershire/Dorset so far.

I've worked out how to add new names ...

Hi Mike,

I think the Chapman code in the subject line idea is a really good
one - also the other abbreviations you have just come up with.

If we want to belong to this group, which I'm sure most of us do or
what's the point of joining! we should all at least attempt to help
Sally in whatever way we can to get it up and running properly.

Well done Mike for trying to rouse some enthusiasm!!

I'm putting on my thinking cap right now ...

Simple "looking for" should be added to the Database area.

Hello Sue and welcome to the Parishmouse Group

As you will probably realise the group is new and I am transferring the stuff from the old
boards as I get time. The surname lists are in the database section (click on Database on
the left menu) and are held here to keep everyones email addresses as safe as I can. Only
members can view the list and they are not indexed by any search engines so should never
be seen by anyone other than members of this group. Feel free to add any names you
want and I'll try and add more to the lists over the coming days.

The Chapman codes are reference codes given to each county in the UK. It is a short way
of referring to the counties in a form that everyone will know (if only we could all remeber
them all ! ). I am sure someone else can probably give you a better resume of them but
that is the essence of them. You can find a list of them in the files section.

Let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

Hi Mike

OK you didn't get caught that time so I'll leave the settings as they are for now and see what Yahoo have to say and we'll all have to keep our eyes peeled for spam ;)

I've uploaded a file listing the Chapman codes for everyone ... you'll find them in the Files section of the group home page.

Hi Sally

This is coming off the website.

I think it is likely to be a white/black list setting somewhere. They
wouldn't be offering repliable email addresses, the logic goes.

It would make the Yahoo Groups service much more user friendly. I know
of one very ardent genealogist who doesn't like noticeboards, but loves
email notification.

If you can't find the setting it may be worth asking Yahoo to
automatically allow members auto access. I'm sure anything SPAM like
will get dropped on like a ton of rocks from us 'mouse-ers'. Should
Yahoo not have a get around then there should be a new members message
slot, or you are likely to see a lot of messages in the SPAM box,
especially from those who use Rootsweb as well.

The reason I prefer Thunderbird to that M$ one is a matter of security.
If it is T-bird then I will enter the website to post replies.

Hope that all makes sense.

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike

Yahoo doesn't seem to like Thunderbird as the two emails you have sent
using it have been trapped as spam and the delay has been caused by it
sitting in the spam folder waiting for me to approve it. I suggest
trying another application so as not to get caught as spam. I wonder
why it doesn't like Thunderbird?

Hi Folks,

I've not lost the plot :))

The reason why I'm responding to my own message is that I can now tell you that from leaving me to being posted on the website was a delay of about 19 minutes.  So don't panic if you reply, by email to a message and it doesn't immediately appear on the website.

Sometimes  even electrons need a break :)

Mike

Folks,

Two shots in one.  Firstly I'm writing this in Thunderbird, not the Yahoo browser, just to see what happens.  (I used the Reply to All button)
Secondly, in response to Sally should we have our own list of Chapman codes, on the website, and own 3 letter codes on the website for newbies and me who can't remember the 40 or 50 of them.

Hi Folks,

I was thinking - carefully - that as we are starting to grow, but before we get too many that we should have as a guideline that each subject starts with the county Chapman code, e.g:

WOR: xxxx xxxx xxxxx

There are a lot of counties in the UK and Eire so I think this might make things easier for Sally.

Also those of us who get lots of emails can 'delete' without reading.  We could always refer back to the website if we were too enthusiastic

The theme could be developed further as things progress, e.g. Occ for Occupational questions, Rel for Religion based queries and Soc for society notifications.  This would maintain a 3 letter starter.  The Chapman codes are always capitals, I think.   These others could be mixed case.

Your thoughts, but I think the final decision should be Sally's.

Cheers

Mike  :)

Hi Sally.
group

Perhaps I was the only one that didn't have problems with the old
site. Might be my advancing years that the site took pity on me.

Had more problems setting my Yahoo Account up and joining the group
than I needed, but made it in the end.

Best of luck with the new group and hope we can all help each other.

Kindest regards

Bob
