Hi, I have to say I agree with you. It would be a shame if the club stopped
running.I only joined last year having just discovered that my childhood
favourite toy is now a collectable (and I`m only 30 so I feel ancient
knowing that my toys are collectable!). I really look forward to the
magazines and am amazed at just how many different puppets were made. I can
stiil picture as clear as day the Pelham Puppet corner in Gamleys toy shop
in Fareham where I bought my puppet, I was so shocked when I discovered they
weren`t made anymore, I just expected to pick one up off of the shelves like
I did in my childhood! My collection is surely tiny in comparison to others
but is growing very slowly. I have to admit with ever increasing prices and
people with bottomless pockets! I am more often than not out of the runnings
before I`ve started (especially where eBay is concerned!).The one puppet I
would really love (because my 4 year old daughter took ashine to it whilst
watching a coin operated show on Teignmouth pier) is SM boy but until I can
get one for under £20 I`ll have to keep dreaming! Actually I`m beginning to
think that it will be impossible to get any Pelhams for under £20 soon!
Take care
Vikki

Subject: [Pelham Puppet Club] The Magazine

Hi All,
its been such a long time that i have posted any messages of
any worth that i thought it about time I did, now that my work
commitments have eased off...... at long last <G>.

The latest edition of the magazine was great, as always. I really
don't know how you do it Sue and i must apologise for not making any
effort towards it at all this year. I knew i missed a great open day
and there were the pics to prove it ! I understand that the puppet
making competion wasn't as popular this year as in others and after
talking to a few members it seems that it may be a good idea to split
it in to 2 categories. one for SS and SM characters and one for SL
chracters that way everybodys ablities can be maximized instead of
some feeling that they don't stand a chance when others that can do
sl characters, seem to stand the most chance of winning. It would be
unfair for anyone to think they stand less of a chance but with 2
categories everyone can have a go and get to make a character of
their choice that could of been Pelham. What do members think ?

As for Pelhams on TV , well yes it seems that they are being
mentioned more and more as being collectable. But it would be nice to
see so called experts get their facts right !!! and that poor old
Bimbo bless him. Though at least he reached a reasonable price
dispite his added extras and a play worn condition..... I do fear
though that it could very well start another trend in over pricing as
people start to collect them just because they have become
collectable as opposed to a childhood must have <G>
I think some of our seasoned collectors must be very happy that they
haven't just started. I know I am <G> i don't think i could go
through all that again.

The other day we had friends visit and one of them was blown away
when he saw my collection. It turned out he was a writer and director
in the theater and said he longed for christmas and birthdays and
that illusive yellow box to apear and what would be inside it. It was
having pelhams that started his interest in the theater and so many
of his collegues had pelhams too. I told him if he thought my
collection was big he should see some of our members collections ! he
was enthralled and asked for the web site addresses and info. so we
could well see a new memeber joining soon <G> It is so wonderful to
see peoples faces when they get to see something they had as a child
and thought didn't exist anymore, let alone see ones they had never
seen or knew existed. I can remember my first open day like it was
yesterday and the stunned excitement it left me with and the tears of
pure joy at remembering my childhood, as i viewed cabinet after
cabinet of pelhams i knew and had never seen. I still get goose bumps
thinking about it <G>

I know Sue is concerned about the longevity of the magazine and how
many more can be sustained. But in the event that the magazine does
exhuasts itself, maybe just 2 a year or news letter or at least the
opendays may continue? it would be such a shame that it all just
suddenly ceased to be and that we all lost contact.

I know you get praise all the time for your efforts Sue and justly
deserved they are too. But Like Bob it is your enthusiasm, tenacity,
and Love of these puppets that drives you on.... long may it
continue. I speak for so many when I say thankyou from the bottom of
our hearts for bringing us the continuation of all things Pelhamy.

Love and Hugs

Dr. Pelham
