An old lady who is nearly 90 and who lives a few doors away from us has
just been burgled by distraction burglars. They'd seen our scaffolding
up from when we had the chimney blocked off, and told her they were
from the council and needed to go outside and check her roof.
When she and her elderly son went out with them to see what the problem
was, an accomplice ransacked the house and cleared out everything of
value, including savings, debit cards, and personal items.
If anybody comes round from the council unexpected be on your guard,
and most of all, don't challenge them if you're on your own. They told
me that when they started to resist, they were getting rough with the
elderly lady.
The police told them that basically, if you've not had any work done on
your house, or reported any faults, don't let them in.
Just thought I'd warn you all to be extra careful!
