Hi again,Our house in Mountsteven avenue was No 50,right on the corner of churchfied rd.I remember we did have two apple trees there and one did indeed grow mistletoe I remember trying to get it to grow on the other tree, without success.Down churchfield rd on RHS was a family butchers at which I was the errand boy! I road that bike with a huge basket on the front miles all over Werrington Tues evening and Saturday,( I think ) That would have been around 1944.There was also a little fish and chip shop down an alley close to the butchers somewhere, perhaps your neighbours remember that ? I left the Walton County Mixed ( Mr Avery was head) To go to Kings school in 45. We now live in Devon but have relatives there still.Regards Gordon.

---------------------------------------------------------- I live in Churchfield Road now, near Mountsteven Avenue, where I have been for the last 25 years. I lived in Paston Lane from 1960 -1965. I decided to move back to the Walton area because at that time it was one of the least changed areas left since the 60's - not so much now.
The infant and junior schools are still there (as Nik has said), but have amalgamated under one headship, now called 'Discovery'. Walton Secondary School itself was demolished last year in favour of a multi million pound school called 'Voyager'.
The allotments (or half of them) are still there, adjoining the rec. The other half was built on some years ago for a very good complex for the elderly called 'Bishopsfield'.
Unfortunately poor old Walton Rec, which used to be a peacable place years ago has become a meeting place for anti social behaviour - the cure of which, according to the Council, is to put a flood lit MUGA (multi use games area)- currently at consultation stage. Not quite sure if that won't encourage the behaviour, especially during the winter months, when the perpetrators will be able to see better what they are doing.
Anyway, getting back to your era, Gordon. (Do I take it you are no longer in Peterborough?) When I used to walk to the junior school in 1960/61, that house on the corner used to have a very small 'orchard', with one of the trees growing a very large bunch of mistletoe. I think there were also some ducks (or geese) kept on that small piece of land at the corner. Was it like that when you were there?
