Re: [peterborough_memories] Re: Petrborough in pictures

Hi Nik. You say the original infant school building is still there, I remember it had a small bell on the roof (Lincoln Rd end) It's not to clear on google earth?Regards Gordon Boughton,

Hi Gordon,

The infant and junior schools are indeed still there but have been extended a lot over the years. The original school buildings still stand. The secondary school was demolished last Summer (see Peterborough In Pictures for photos) and replaced with a new building in what was the school field.

Hi Christine.I remember the little shop well. I had an Aunt & Uncle living opposite. We lived on the corner of Churchfield rd, in M/S avenue and I see from the google earth maps our old recreation ground is still there along with the allotments after 70 yrs! The swings seem to have disappeared though,as have the infant/junior & sec schools.Regards

Hi Gordon. My Grandad lived in Mountsteven avenue, along that stretch
in the photo. I can remember visiting in the early 50's.

Can you remember the pond at the end of Mountsteven, at the junction
of Fulbridge Rd? And the donkey that used to be tethered there?

Also petrol pump on the same side, just inside Mountsteven Ave? Mr
Gore's grocery shop where the hairdresser's is now?

Christine
