Re: [peterborough_memories] Re: Peterborough in pictures
Hi there Christine.Thank you for the information, and you can tell Ron that although I left Peterborough 60 years ago I am still a Posh supporter much to the disbelief of my Devon friends.I well remember going to the London Rd ground with father in those days.My dads name was Tom.I also watched Posh here in Devon at both Plymouth and Torquay in recent years.I did wonder if the "Revels" remember the Butcher's or the Fish shop I mentioned ?Your whole area has changed unbelievably since we were children,we used to walk to the end of M'S avenue, across Lincoln Rd into Sages lane, over the railway (There was a foot crossing then) it was all fields wonderful for kids.During the war there was a small tented group of soldiers with an anti aircraft gun just over the crossing in the field.I remember them giving us tins of Mconikies ?" Like thick beef soup"For home.Speak to you again.Gordon.

Hello Gordon, I visited my neighbours last week, and remembered to ask them if they could recall who lived in that house on the corner in the 40's. I couldn't remember you surname, but Ron thought and came up with 'Broughton', which is near enough. He said that your dad (and may be you?) were keen foot ball supporters. Ron always had a season ticket for the Posh, until recent years.
Do you remember Mr and Mrs Revel, on the same side of Churchfield Road, as your garden? Both now in their mid 80's.
Christine

I road that bike with a huge basket on the front miles all over Werrington Tues evening and Saturday,( I think ) That would have been around 1944.There was also a little fish and chip shop down an alley close to the butchers somewhere, perhaps your neighbours remember that ? I left the Walton County Mixed ( Mr Avery was head) To go to Kings school in 45. We now live in Devon but have relatives there still.Regards Gordon. > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Christine Chadwick > To: peterborough_memories@yahoogroups.co.uk > Sent: Tuesday, August 12, 2008 7:59 AM > Subject: [peterborough_memories] Re: Peterborough in pictures > > > --- In peterborough_memories@yahoogroups.co.uk, "Gordon Boughton" > <quilletman@> wrote: > > > > Hi Christine.I remember the little shop well.
