The Sun newspaper has reported that Crossroads has been
recommissioned for another year but there are to be massive changes
to the show, its cast and storylines.
In a nutshell, the existing Executive Producer Sharon Bloom has gone
bye bye and a judge from SoapStars, Yvon Grace, will replace her.
From http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2002271488,00.html
ITV has spared Crossroads from the chop — but bosses have drafted in
ruthless Soapstars judge Yvon Grace to axe a clutch of regulars.
The network has commissioned another year of shows but is demanding
huge changes to boost ratings.
Red-haired Yvon — dubbed Cruella De Vil for making Soapstars hopefuls
cry — becomes the show's new executive producer.
An ITV insider said: "The cast are steeling themselves for a wave of
axings, but there will also be new faces and better storylines.
"Yvon has a very good track record and anybody who saw her on
Soapstars knows she takes no prisoners."
The changes will be seen on screen in the autumn.
The move ends a nervous few months for the cast, who feared the re-
launched 1970s show was going to be chopped altogether.
Crossroads was last year cut from two episodes five days a week to
running twice a day from Monday to Thursday.
Critics blasted the show, which pulls in 3.2 million viewers, for
failing to match the old version.
Yvon said: "I have great plans to make it a must-see daytime show.
"I remember rushing home from school to watch it. I loved Crossroads
when I was growing up."
Just for fun:

Heh, one day maybe... Glad you like the fanfic.

It's a child thing - say everything's crap because they can and then
go upstairs and watch it on their own set.
Ironically enough, the suubmitter of the new fanfic is called
Tom... :)

It was a brilliant episode of Crossroads I thought - see my other
post.
I thought that was quite good, Wednesday's episode. It had some
brilliant scenes, great lines, well scripted, well acted and well
what can I say?
Colin Wells is quite believeable as Jake Booth, you could just feel
his relief at getting his son back and his horror as his son ran
back. Plus he has the same birthday date as me which is quite an
honour I have to say! :-) But if you're professional conveying your
characters feelings comes natural anyway.
Cindy Marshall-Day has perfected the art of crying her eyes out and
looking depressed to a T. Her quarry scenes today and all the
previous scenes with her and Scott in the flat were, for the most
part, wonderful. I don't know why people constantly slate her of all
people for her acting ability as I can't see anything wrong with it!
Kieran Hardcastle - today was his best performance yet in
Crossroads. He plays the part of the long suffering Scott easily,
his natural complexion accompanies the character well. The star of
the show today (he did talk Tracey out of jumping), Kieran is
definitely an actor to look out for in the future me thinks.
Dear all
Enjoyed the new fanfic on Planet Crossroads, someone needs to start
an adult XXroads mailing list, now that would be fun!!!
My nine year old keeps telling me he's way too cool to watch
Crossroads, being into Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach etc, so there I am
having my cup of coffee peacefully in the deserted living room
today; it's all getting very nail biting and poor Scott's
yelling "Muuum Muuum, don't fall off that cliff you might smash your
last bottle of voddy" and Tracey's screaming " Don't let Jake any
nearer or I'll juuuuuump"... when from upstairs I hear the dulcet
tones of my son Tom shouting "Jump Jump for Gods sake"
Crossroads is way too uncool huh...... I think not.

not everybody has the time, patience or "ability" (for want of a
better term) to do fanfic.
The one I did had three edits - the initial write-up as I went along,
a re-writing that I did after sending it to somebody who pointed out
all the continuity errors in regards to old Crossroads, and a third
edit when I wasn't happy with some of the content.
If you want to submit fanfiction or write it for any site, please do
so. As much as I'd love to write something about the past workings
of the Booth Family for example, time is the enemy.
As for "classic fandom" - that's up to us. Old Crossroads has its
fandom, we don't yet because the programme is still with us. You'll
come back in about four years, pick a date from the site's episode
archive and remember the show. Now that's fandom. It'll be even
cooler if the site is still around then, of course... :)
Dear Neil and all,
I like your fanfic, I think you may have to encourage everyone to
write it, cos I don't think RL crossroads will be alive for us much
longer!!
Whether crossroads will ever enter the realms of classic fandom I'm
not sure, but it would be fun reading matter for us addicts.

mediaguardian.co.uk: ITV moves soap from day to night
Jason Deans
Wednesday March 27, 2002
Night and Day
ITV1 has axed daytime soap Night and Day from its teatime schedule,
after the critically acclaimed series starring Lesley Joseph and Lysette
Anthony failed to attract enough viewers in the highly competitive time
slot.
The decision means the show will now be restricted to its late night
omnibus slot on Thursdays where it will run for another year.
Night and Day was the second big soap hope of the last year - Crossroads
was also resurrected but neither caught the imagination of the viewers.
Just 2.2 million viewers tuned into Night and Day when it launched in
November, but since then its audience has declined, with an average of
just 1 million - a 9% audience share - tuning in for the three teatime
editions last week.
The soap was pitched into arguably the toughest daytime slot, against
BBC2's runaway hit The Weakest Link and Channel 4's Richard and Judy
show.
But it was well received critically from the outset, with quirky and
offbeat story lines and a cast that mixed well-known faces such as
Lysette Anthony, Joe McGann and Lesley Joseph with relative newcomers
including Georgina Walker and Nick Schofield.
The first episode set the tone, with an explosive storyline featuring
the disappearance of Walker's character, the Lolita-esque Jane Harper,
on her 16th birthday.
"Night and Day is a bold commission which has received widespread
critical acclaim and we are very proud of it," said Tony Woods, ITV's
head of continuing drama series.
"The series has already established itself as cult viewing for young
adults and repositioning it with a first showing in the evening will
build on its appeal."
ITV already has 60 episodes of Night and Day in the can, so the drama
can run for another year in its new slot.
The Granada-produced Night and Day has gone out on Tuesday, Wednesday
and Thursday at 5.05pm with an omnibus edition on Thursday nights
including extra post-watershed material.
The late night edition was getting just 1.2m viewers and a 15% audience
share.
From April 11, ITV1 will show just a single, hour-long episode of Night
and Day at 11pm on Thursdays.
There is no decision yet on the fate of ITV1's other daytime soap,
Crossroads, which was commissioned at the same time as Night and Day.
As far as I know, filming does finish tomorrow, Thursday, and there is a
break of filming for a couple of months, pertaining a decision from the
ITV Network Centre on whether the show is to be recommissioned or not.
At least if the show is shelved, we can pretty much assume that Night &
day is going to go the same way. It gets just over half the audience that
Xroads does (N&D gets on average 1.1 million and Xroads gets approx 2
million. And yes, Xroads is still the highest rating programme in the
entire ITV1 daytime schedule).
Anyway, will have to wait and see what is going to happen. Will let you
know when we know.
