John,
Thanks for your interest.Nothing change on the spectrum if on stereo or mono position. In I(Left)/Q(Right) the spectrum is splitted in 2 equal sections R+L with the same exactly signals running. The sound is also double if you click on it.

Agelos,

Are you sure that the switch mono/stereo on the front is in stereo-position.One time I had to blame myself that I didn't checked it carefull and that he was switched in mono. You can check it also while viewing the Winradspectrum and then switch from mono to stereo ,you must normally see the difference in the spectrum while switching.

cheers,
John

Dear Martin,
The answer is No.It looks like the outputs of the card are mono.Changing the connections I can have alternately Left or Right chanell.
Anyway many thanks for the quick reply.

Dear Agelos,

how do you have connected the E-MU TRACKER with the PMSDR?
Are you sure if both I/Q channels are connected to the R/L Line inputs on the E-MU TRACKER?

You can check this with Winrad ->"Show options"->"mode"->"R only" or "L only".

Hi all,
Did anyone of the group is using this sound card ?
I received today as a brand new item but I am facing difficulties to set-up and make it properly working with my PMSDR.Using WinradHD I have only 1 channel at a time ,also when I check I(Left)/Q(Right) appears 2 equal sections on the screen separated by left and right schowing exactly the same signals on each section on the waterfall. What am I doing wrong ?
Thanks in advance

Agelos,

I think I have the answer in your reply to Martin,
The inserts you mentioned are just a break between the mic amp and ADC converter for effect equipment (in music bussiness) and not stereo-inputs.
What you need is a Y cable ,one side a mini stereo jack for the pmsdr and on the other side split into 2 mono jacks (1/4inch) for left and right. These 2 you have to connect into the 2 high level inputs (the greatest in dimension) and then set the volume for each with the front left and right gain controls.

cheers ,
John

Hello Martin,

Many thanks for implementing the CAT support for the FT950.
I am now often using the PMSDR in combination with Winrad(f,hd) and need HRD, com0com or omnirig for FT950 control.
Your option reduces complexity and cpu usage.

Hi Martin,
also I would like to say THANK YOU very much. I obtained my new FT-950
yesterday, and of corse, I have to learn how to handle the Rig, before I may use
it for the Digi-Modes, but the time will come soon hopefully!
I also added a RFSPACE IF-Board for Pan-Adapter purposes, and your new DLL might
also help here? I'm not sure, because I have read in the RFSPACE manual that the
IF-Out might shift as a function of Working-Mode selected (SSB, CW, etc.), and
that will cause the question how to set the input Freq. in the DLL, but we will
see ...

Hi Udo,

>>I also added a RFSPACE IF-Board for Pan-Adapter purposes, and your new DLL might also help here?

Of course. The IF-Panadapter function is supported since versions V3.2r3 of the DLL. The IF frequency of your Rig is user-defined in the Extio_PMSDR.ini file.

For example:

[PAN_RIG]
ELEKRAFT K2=4915000
ELEKRAFT K3=8215000
IF2000=10550000
9 MHz=9000000
10,7 MHz=10700000

A new release of WRplus, 1.02 is available for download from www.wrplus.altervista.org .

I have received a lot of feedbacks and requests; I tried to give priority to those features that are really important or indispensable for the majority of users, in daily use.

Here in short the new features, modifications and corrections:

  • New FM double-bandwidth option; extends the available bandwidth up to 48 KHz; targeted to NOAA APT weather satellite reception, which requires at least a 30 KHz BW. Given the higher internal SR this mode requires more CPU resources; can be used even for Narrow Band FM if a lower demodulation distortion is needed. Many thanksto Joris van Scheindelen and Rob Engberts, PAØRWE for support, testing and advices (also for the AFC/AFT feature, see below).

  • New FM Automatic Frequency Control / Automatic Frequency Tracking option; this feature locks the internal WRplus NCO to the received carrier frequency, in a way similar to ECSS mode. If the carrier frequency varies continuously as in the case of APT satellite reception (due to Doppler Effect), the AFC become AFT, chasing those variations thus maintaining optimal FM demodulation.

  • Redesigned Skew Adjustment Panel: adjustment ranges has been augmented to 0.5-1.5 for amplitude and +/- 15° for phase with the same original resolution; up to four complete skew settings can be stored (B-2-3-4) to be used with different receivers. For example, you can store a "neutral" set-up in "B" for Perseus (which doesn't need compensation), a PMSDR set-up in "2" etc.

  • Auto-start ("-as") and auto-record ("-ar") command line options; while waiting for a proper record scheduler implementation in WRplus, these options allow the creation of start-up scripts for recording purposes. Auto start simply start WRplus after loading and is useful when you want to record the program output; auto record, if used together with auto start put WRplus in record mode within 3 seconds after start thus allowing the recording of a spectrum portion.

  • In order to make the above recording features useable in combination with every hardware supported (and also to be more user-friendly), WRplus now remember the selection of an EXTIO dll as input device from session to session. This is true also for the "Soft" filter Fc (previously it was set to a default 3500 Hz at program start-up).

  • Enhanced multi-monitor operation: WRplus now remember the last used window position (when used with the "window view") option; a new command line parameter "-sd" move the WRplus GUI to the second monitor (when used in full screen mode) like in WinradHD.

  • EXTIO GUI pop-up at program restore fixed: now WRplus doesn't show the EXTIO panel (if any) when restored from minimized.

  • Some cosmetic changes and corrections; default palette for the waterfalls is now "Spectran".

  • User Guide updated.

As always feedbacks and comments are welcome.

Thanks to all for the advices.

First off -- THANK YOU Martin!! Fantastic kit, easy to put together, wonderful
instructions, and just a sexy looking little box! Shipping was astoundingly
fast (almost 5000miles/8000km in two days?? WOW!)

I was having some weird issues with the PM-SDR working right. I found that I
had to use specific DLL's with specific programs (I had originally just used the
latest with all programs).

The issue I'm having is with CAT/CI-V control of my IC-7000. What's happening
is this: With CAT control enabled (as well as 'send CAT commands to radio' --
or not!) when I tune with my IC-7000 *OR* the PM-SDR, the frequency 'jitters'.
For example, if I am tuned to 7.200.000MHz, and I turn the VFO knob on the
IC-7000 upwards, the frequency display on the IC-7000 and the PM-SDR VERY
RAPIDLY flickers between 7.200.000 and 7.201.000.

What's worse is if I change bands. For example, 7.200.000MHz and bandswitch to
3.900.000, the frequency display does the same 'flickering' -- but worse, the
relays in my IC-7000 sound like a toy machine gun going off.

What I'm thinking is this: It could possibly be that I'm using a USB CI-V cable
and the polling just isn't fast/smooth/sudden enough and starts freaking out.
For testing purposes, I just ordered a true serial CI-V cable, but won't be able
to test this for a week or so (it is being shipped from China).

Am I approaching this the right way by suspecting the USB cable? Other items
plugged in USB ports are a mouse, a SignaLink USB, and the PM-SDR (as well as
the CI-V). OS is XP Home (32-bit)

I've ordered a firewire TC Konnekt 6 Desktop to use as a decent external sound
card, so in the meantime, I'm having to use a paltry AC'97 onboard sound chip.

When I take the IC-7000 out of the loop entirely -- the PM-SDR works
FANTASTICALLY!!

Thanks for reading all of this, as well as any suggestions, tips, or comments
you can offer (anyone).

Forgot to mention, it shipped with firmware 2.1.6, and I upgraded it to 2.1.8.
The PM-SDR kit I've got is the receiver board (of course), case, LCD screen and
the switchboard.

2. Is the flicker step always 1 kHz,  for any mode?

Oggetto: [pmsdr] PM-SDR & WinRad (any version with CAT/CI-V)

First off -- THANK YOU Martin!! Fantastic kit, easy to put together, wonderful instructions, and just a sexy looking little box! Shipping was astoundingly fast (almost 5000miles/8000km in two days?? WOW!)

I was having some weird issues with the PM-SDR working right. I found that I had to use specific DLL's with specific programs (I had originally just used the latest with all programs).

The issue I'm having is with CAT/CI-V control of my IC-7000. What's happening is this: With CAT control enabled (as well as 'send CAT commands to radio' -- or not!) when I tune with my IC-7000 *OR* the PM-SDR, the frequency 'jitters'. For example, if I am tuned to 7.200.000MHz, and I turn the VFO knob on the IC-7000 upwards, the frequency display on the IC-7000 and the PM-SDR VERY RAPIDLY flickers between 7.200.000 and 7.201.000.

What's worse is if I change bands. For example, 7.200.000MHz and bandswitch to 3.900.000, the frequency display does the same 'flickering' -- but worse, the relays in my IC-7000 sound like a toy machine gun going off.

What I'm thinking is this: It could possibly be that I'm using a USB CI-V cable and the polling just isn't fast/smooth/sudden enough and starts freaking out. For testing purposes, I just ordered a true serial CI-V cable, but won't be able to test this for a week or so (it is being shipped from China).

Am I approaching this the right way by suspecting the USB cable? Other items plugged in USB ports are a mouse, a SignaLink USB, and the PM-SDR (as well as the CI-V). OS is XP Home (32-bit)

I've ordered a firewire TC Konnekt 6 Desktop to use as a decent external sound card, so in the meantime, I'm having to use a paltry AC'97 onboard sound chip.

When I take the IC-7000 out of the loop entirely -- the PM-SDR works FANTASTICALLY!!

Thanks for reading all of this, as well as any suggestions, tips, or comments you can offer (anyone).

73,
--Alex / KF4YOR

1.) I'll get a screenshot and email it to you shortly. One thing I'm kind of
interested in is the rig address in "Send CAT Commands to Rig" -- I've been
using whatever the PMSDR-DLL program assigns (since it technically DOES somewhat
work), however, my IC-7000 is using the default of "70h".

2.) No, not always 1kHz. It actually is something kind of random-ish. An
actual example is 7.045.45 and 7.063.32.

After I close out WinRad (again, the version/build doesn't seem to affect this)
and restart -- I entirely lose CAT/CI-V control. I have to restart the PM-SDR
(unplug and re-plug in the USB) and in the IC-7000 I have to go into the
settings and re-enable "CI-V Transceive" (SET --> OTH --> menu item #50).

For additional info -- Ham Radio Deluxe / DM780 work without problems, as well
as the ability to control my rig via the internet. Also, for additional
troubleshooting on my end, I've entirely removed the SignaLink USB. Same
issues.

Thank you so much for everything, Martin. It really is greatly appreciated!

On an entirely unrelated note...

The FCC just granted my application for a callsign change. So, I'm no longer

Problem: Solved!!

It turns out the CI-V/CAT address of the IC-7000 wasn't set properly. That is
all fixed up now (don't remember what it defaulted to, but the proper setting is
0x70h).

Still having a SLIGHT tuning issue which *IS* related to using a USB CI-V cable.
Again, that will be remedied in a week or so when my true 9-pin serial CI-V
cable arrives.

Martin: you have been absolutely fantastic to work with! I looked at a *LOT*
of other SDR solutions, and your's is the one that I kept gravitating towards.
It really came down to the PM-SDR and the Flex-1500. Since I already own an
IC-7000, and I can only talk on one radio at a time, it just made sense to have
a great general coverage receiver.

Give it about a week or so, so I can really play around with the PM-SDR and I'll
write up a really nice glowing review on E-Ham. Your product really deserves
more attention and praise than what is already out there.

Wish list: Ability to use the latest PowerSDR with the "Pretty Betty"
interface. WinRad is super-cool, but would like to 'spread my wings' with other
software packages.

Final thought: I will not hesitate to recommend this kit to ANYone. In fact,
at my next club meeting (if I can make it -- I'm having spinal/pelvic surgery on
27 October) I'm going to bring the PM-SDR, my netbook, and a simple shortwave
antenna I made with speaker wire. I really want to have more of these PM-SDR
kits selling. In fact, I wouldn't mind becoming a USA Reseller of these kits.

Warmest and kindest regards,
73,

Subject: Hotkey Script Problem

Hello,
I tried running the Hotkey script for overnight recordings but ran into a
problem.
I edited sample 3 for my start and stop times. I run the script and at the
proper time Winrad starts as it should. The cursor moves to about an inch below
the record button and sits there until the script is about to stop. 1 second
before the stop, the cursor moves to the record button, hits it and then the
script and Winrad shut down.

I ran the script once after I had used Winrad in the Wav mode rather that in
PMSDR mode and it recorded just fine, start to finish.
Could this be a problem with the PMSDR DLL?

I am running this with Wodows 7.

Thanks,
Jon

Looks like my problem with the recording script is over. a new just released
version of WinradHD has a built in recording scheduler. I just installed it and
have started to play with it. So far, NICE!
You can DL the new program here:

Hi to the group,
don't know if this is of any interest to the group
but I wanted to be able to switch off the pmsdr unit when not in use
without unplugging it from the usb port.
If you carefully cut and remove a small section of covering on the usb cable to
get into the wiring you can then snip the red and black wires and fit a toggle
switch inline
this allows you to switch the 5 volt supply to the unit on and off.
red wire is 5volt + and black wire is ground.

Thanks, David. Yes, now that HD has the scheduler things are much more easier.
I guess it's just a matter of time before the other Winrad developers
incorporate it into their versions.
I wish I knew how they did it so that I could pick and choose the best features
from each and create a super Winrad.

Hello Sandro,

The WRPlus software (all versions) does not run on my Windows XP laptop (Pro
version with SP3).
Nothing happens when I start the program. Also, no registry entry is created. I
cannot see a task running, so it is very weird.

It runs, however, fine on a 2nd laptop with Windows Vista!
I have set up the same file structure on both PC's (all Dll's are in it).
All other versions of Winrad (WinradHD, WinradF) are running on the XP laptop
without any nproblem.

Can you give me any reason why WRPlus is not running??
