Office Lead, English Speaking West Africa - Nigeria This position will be located in one of Google's existing offices in either London, England; Nairobi, Kenya; or Johannesburg, South Africa. We need an innovative, dynamic leader to drive our West African activities remotely while traveling significantly throughout the region. You'll be leading a growing team of West African Googlers and managing day-to-day operations. We would like someone with a technical background and who has business savvy. Sample technical projects might include local infrastructure optimization and adaptation of a variety of Google's products and services to the local market. We are also looking for someone with the creativity, drive and personality to develop and own partnerships with businesses, local universities, government entities, vendors, customers and other organizations. We require someone with exceptional communication and negotiation skills and who is results-driven. Given that this is a developing market, this person must be versatile and be able to bring results in a dynamic and sometimes ambiguous situation. Responsibilities: Help build a team of West African Googlers while developing a strategy for our local presence in English speaking West Africa. Provide superior technical oversight of local Google projects. Identify, initiate and manage key local project and partnerships in the areas of infrastructure, product, and sales. Provide a strong communication link to Google's Mountain View, California, headquarters and other remote offices. Scout market development opportunities for Google in West Africa and think creatively how Google current technology asset could be deployed in the region. Recommend specific initiatives for West Africa in line with Google mission, values and capabilities. Be the voice of the region at Google. Requirements: BA/BS degree required; degree in computer science strongly preferred. Strong local relationships both in the private and public sectors. A thorough understanding of the West African information and communication technologies (ICT) ecosystem, including backbone infrastructure, last-mile access and local content. Experience working with local telcos, ISPs, and mobile operators. Extensive business experience in Nigeria, preferrably in ICT sector. Strong interpersonal skills and experience with negotiating and partner management. Ability to recruit and manage a world class team. Ability to motivate and demonstrate technical leadership. Passion for technology helping people. Capable of "rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty". Excellent communication skills: both verbal and written. Communicate effectively across functions and builds relationships with engineering and sales. Works well in fast-paced growing environment. Past track records of building a strong technical team and excelling at execution and delivery. May have prior start-up experience and demonstrate ability to adapt. A proven track record in business development, sales and in management Fluent in English.
