Glenn, I asked that same question of the glass shop that cut the glass for my '51 Tin Woody wagon. They use urethane window sealant in the caulk gun tubes....

It's kind of a personal choice, if you'd like to replace it then do it. You have a good chance of breaking the glass so you may end up with a new windshield....

I replaced mine, but my glass had started to separate and I needed new glass anyway. If you're careful, you can get the old glass out OK...it just takes time...
