117th Praetorian Supply Company

The sun was actually out today which allowed me to take a few photos
of the Praetorian 117th Support Company. I have to take photos
outside because when I take them inside they are either too dark (no
flash) or washed out (with flash). The Command Chimera interior is
still difficult even with natural light. Maybe LED lights would have
been a good idea.

As posted before, the 117th Support Company is a behind-the-lines
support unit that provides communications, supply, artillery, and
medical aid to the Guard infantry regiments. Typically, combat
troops will rotate back to the 117th camp for ammunition, a hot meal,
and to get patched up before heading back to the trenches.

The Company is composed of a command squad with a communications
chimera with improved comms. A squad of three sentinels with extra
communications gear is attached to provide recon and forward observer
functions. Forward units will relay information back to the 117th
for relaying p the chain of command. Line units can also request
fire mission from the attached artillery batteries or request re-
supply or medical evacuations from the 117th.

The Company has three infantry and one heavy platoon. They are
divided into medical, supply, engineering, and defense. Each
infantry platoon is composed of a junior officer and 3 squads. The
third squad is normally mounted in a specialized chimera. The
medical platoon is assigned an ambulance, the engineers have a
construction chimera, and the supply section uses a standard chimera
for supplies.

The defense platoon is composed of two lascannon squads, one heavy
bolter squad, and one mortar squad. These static weapons are
emplaced around the base camp for protection.

The Artillery Company currently consists of six artillery pieces
organized into two batteries. They provide fire support to front
line troops via com-link through the command chimera, or for fire
missions directed by the sentinels. The artillery batteries also have
a Hydra flak tank attached to provide AA protection. A saber
platform assists in this role.

When fielded in games of 40K, the 117th Support Company is normally
mechanized with artillery support. As a support company, the army
normally does not have any elite units present, although a techpriest
would be the most likely. Another elite unit may stop by for last
minute resupply before leaving the area. I also have a Valkyrie that
can be used to ferry important command staff or can be used for
medivac purposes.

Currently, I have another 40 men to paint, plus a Baneblade,
Malcador, Vanquisher, 4 Russes, the construction chimera and the
Hydra. I used an airbrush on the other vehicles and actually need to
order more of same Velejo colors before painting the rest of the
tanks. I tired a different method on the construction chimera, but
was not pleased and plan to repaint it.

Cheers,

Dustin

Some nice paint jobs, and a well-executed idea... I'd like to see more - but I resent the intimation that Praetorian troops stand in trenches! Yes, we dig them...

... Yes, but a firing line behind hard cover is even better. It's also useful when your opponent has artillery and you are in a static encampment. ... In...

Indeed I do use COD (Close Order Drill)! For one it looks so very sharp to have either a rank kneeling wand one standing behind, or a hedge of bayonets. Also...
