Hi Alys
Worked down my emails to this one.
If anyone wanted to stay this far out and had transport they'd be welcome - one or two people.
Alternatively I could lend duvets and pillows and some cushions I use as spare beds.

Food - I'm going to be away for most of the week but could cook Monday or Thurs evenings or bring in a meal for then and perhaps leave you some cake?

Let me know which bits would be useful

Subject: [psclancaster] Practical help required for Palestine training, Lancaster

Hi

I am writing to request some practical help for a forthcoming Palestine training that will take place in Lancaster.

The International Women's Peace Service (IWPS), the group I worked with in Palestine and continue to volunteer with, is holding an 8 day training here in Lancaster, from 21st-28th November. IWPS provides non-violent intervention to prevent human rights abuses, documents human rights abuses and provides international accompaniment.

There are many practical and tangible ways you can contribute to supporting the training and therefore contributing directly to the on going work of IWPS.

Offers of accomodation:
  • We need to find places for 12 people to stay, for either 8 or 9 nights (depending on their travel plans). Most people will be arriving on Fri 20th November & leaving on Sat 28th Nov. If that feels too long, then you could offer a minimum of 3 nights and we can piece it together.
  • Some people will need beds, but most people will be fine with floor space.
  • Ideally you would be happy to offer them breakfast. Lunch and dinner they will eat at the training venue.
  • They will be out from around 8.30 am to around 8.30pm, so hopefully will be easy and low maintenance guests.
  • We also need offers of air beds, camping mats or matresses to put on the floor in my house, and ideally some bedding as well. Several of the people attending the training will be going straight on to Palestine, so will need to be travelling light.

Offers of help with food:
  • We also need offers of help with food, both the cooking and donation of food.
  • We need to arrange a rota of volunteers who will agree to cook. This is a concrete way to support people able and willing to go to Palestine. Please help!!!
  • We will have a "menu plan" arranged, so you can either offer to cook anything you like that is vegetarian, or follow the "plan" if you don't want to have to think about it.
  • IWPS and most of the volunteers are on low budgets, so any offers of food (rice, pasta, vegetables etc etc) would also be v welcome.

Offers of cash:
  • Due to the international nature of IWPS, the training will involve travel costs of existing volunteers coming from a number of countries.
  • Many of the existing volunteers spend a lot of time in Palestine, and therefore find it hard to earn much money in their home countries.
  • IWPS is run entirley by volunteers and relies on donations to be able to continue.
  • Any money donations will be much appreciated!!!!

OK! That is our wish list.
Many people say to me they wish they knew what they could do in response to the situation in Palestine. So here is your opportunity to do something very practical to support a bunch of deeply committed women, who are willing to go to Palestine to witness, to intervene and to stand alongside....

If you can help out please email or call me on 01524 65086

Many thanks

Alys

You are invited to a Palestine fundraiser on Thursday 29th Oct from 7pm onwards, raising money for the forthcoming IWPS training that will be happening in Lancaster). IWPS is the group I worked with in Palestine and continue to volunteer with (www.iwps-pal.org)

The fundraiser is a jewellery party at my house, selling unique, hand made silver jewellery.
As some of you know my mum makes very fab jewellery and donates it (materials as well as labour) to raise money for Palestine solidarity work. I may be biased but I think her stuff is unique & gorgeous!

Most things are priced between 5-10. A few things are 10-15

The ideal opportunity for hassle free, sociable & good conscience Christmas shopping!!!!
Or just treat yourself!

If you don't know where I live and want to come, send me an email

Who are the Decommissioners:

“If the law and the police can’t do anything about it it’s about time
somebody else did”

– The EDO Decommissioners

On January the 17th 2009 the bombs had already fallen relentlessly on
Gaza for three weeks. Massive, passionate demonstrations and pickets
had been held in many cities around the country and the world in
protest against Israel’s war crimes. However, a growing sense of
helplessness was grabbing hold of the movement as the Palestinian body
count stood at 1400 and counting. 300 of the dead were children. This
was the night of the “citizen’s decommissioning” of the weapons
manufacturer EDO MBM/ITT in Moulsecoomb, Brighton.

Just after midnight Elijah Smith, Tom Woodhead, Robert Nicholls,
Ornella Sabiene, Robert Alford and Harvey Tadman and broke into
EDO’spremises with the aim to, in Elijah Smith’s words, “...smash it
up to the best of

abilities”. It was an entirely accountable action where each
decommissioner had pre-recorded a video in which they stated the
reasons for their participation – to help dismantle the war machine
from the factory floor (to view their video statements go to
http://www.youtube <http://www.youtube/>
.com/watchv=mfa8R2AxUFg&feature=related). Once inside the building,
they barricaded themselves in and set to work; Equipment used

to make weapon components - including some used in Israeli F16
fighter jets - were trashed whilst computers, filing cabinets and
office furnishings were thrown out of the windows. Once they were done
they calmly waited for the police to arrest them. Three bystanders
were also arrested on the day and are now implicated in the
decommissioners’ court case.

According to EDO £300,000 worth of damage was caused and Detective
Chief Inspector Graham Pratt was quoted in the Guardian as saying:
“Windows had been smashed and offices turned over in what I would
describe as wanton vandalism, but with machinery and equipment so
targeted that it could have been done with a view of bringing business
to a standstill”. He was of course misguided. Far from being an action
of “wanton vandalism”, it was a thought through act of resistance
against what could only be described as a massacre

going on in Gaza. However, the second part of his statement was
rightly observed: the decommissioning prevented the manufacturing side
of EDO from working for several weeks, hence slowing down the
murderous war machine they are a part of.

One of the decommissioners, Elijah Smith, is still remanded. A ten
week

court case was scheduled to start in the last week of October 2009.
It has now been scheduled to begin on May 17th 2010. The defendants
will argue that they were entitled to decommission EDO because the
factory was complicit in war crimes.

Award winning Australian foreign correspondent Sophie McNeill has been invited to deliver the Lancaster University 2009 Richardson Institute Annual Peace Lecture.

The free public lecture called ‘Reporting from conflict zones: telling the stories of the victims’ will be held at Lancaster University (Management School Lecture Theatre 8), Thursday 15 October,6.00-8.00pm.

Sophie has covered some of the world’s most difficult and dangerous stories from areas such as Iraq, Kurdistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Gaza and she has been based most recently in Jerusalem, Beirut and New York. Regarded as a seasoned foreign correspondent, Sophie made her first documentary in a conflict zone when she was 15 years old and is still only 23. Her journalism has been praised as ‘exceptional’ by the celebrated journalist John Pilger.

Her talent and courage as a journalist and her commitment to tell the stories of those affected by conflict and injustice have been recognised in the wide range of awards she has received, including the highest award for an Australian journalist – the Walkley Young Australian Journalist of the Year 2008.

She was also awarded Western Australia's Young Person of the Year Award (when she was just 16), was a New York Film Festival finalist in 2006 and was honoured as the 2008 Young Woman of the Year and Journalist of the Year, an award given by Australia’s women’s magazine YEN.

This is the fourth annual peace lecture at the Richardson Institute which was established in 1959 as the first peace research centre in Britain. The inaugural lecture was given by the renowned Middle East correspondent of The Independent Robert Fisk, who is an alumnus of Lancaster University.  It was standing room only at a packed last year’s peace lecture which was delivered by the veteran political campaigner Tony Benn.

Dear Mr Obama,

As a community activist, peace maker. project coordinator and journalist I respect all that you are doing for this world. However, until now I don’t see anything for Palestine from you side. When you spoke in Egypt, you told the Israeli’s to stop building new settlements without asking for them to remove the settlements that were built after 2000.
Until today, they are killing my people and forcing all Palestinians in Gaza to live under sieze forced to live without man things they need to survive. I have been offered the opportunity to travel often from Gaza for youth events in Europe and in the United States but the closed borders have always prevented me from leaving. Until today the Israeli soldiers keep the borders closed every day.
The most recent news we hear is that the Israeli occupation forces have kidnapped 21 international persons including a congresswoman from the United States and still you remain silent.
Because I have spoken about the 21 Internationals from the Free Gaza boat – The Spirit of Humanity, I also have to speak about the 12,000 Palestinian prisoners in Israel. What will you do for them?
I am a Palestinian refugee from the poorest camp in Gaza. I have the right of return according to International law #194. When will you give this to me and six million Palestinian refugees throughout the world?
The Free Gaza boat is carrying some books because the Israeli Occupation forces prevent the books from coming to Gaza. I think Mr. Obama that we have the right to read.
Many of my friends and organization have invited me to travel abroad to participate in seminars and conferences but because I am Palestinian, I have to fight for the right to travel. I am sorry I can’t be your brother, Mr. Obama. I am sorry that I don’t have an American passport that would let me cross borders without any problems.
Mr. Obama, I hoped I would hear your voice telling us that you condemn the war in Gaza and telling the Israeli occupation forces to “stop this war, stop this violence.....or else!” But I am sorry Mr. Obama, that it was just a dream.
Repeatedly I tell my friends that enough is enough. I am Palestinian.
I am looking forward to hearing from you and to stand with you when you make a difference for peace, justice and nonviolence. We are always searching for peace and justice and nonviolence.

Best regards,

Dear Friend,
I want you to know about a brave and inspiring person who needs your help. His name is Ezra Nawi. He's an Israeli human rights activist who faces jail time for trying to stop a military bulldozer from destroying the homes of Palestinian Bedouins in the South Hebron region. To watch a dramatic video of the incident and his arrest, and to write a letter demanding his freedom, go to http://www.freeEzra.org .

Nawi's friends -- including Naomi Klein, Neve Gordon and Noam Chomsky-- have launched a campaign to generate tens of thousands of letters to Israeli embassies all over the world before he is due to be sentenced in July.

Ezra Nawi is a Jewish Israeli of Iraqi descent who speaks fluent Arabic. He is a gay man in his fifties and a plumber by trade. He is loved by those with little power, to whom he dedicates his life, and hated by the Jewish settlers, military and police.

Please consider taking a minute to send a letter to the Israeli Consulate on behalf of Ezra Nawi. Sign the letter and learn more about Ezra Nawi at http://freeEzra.org .

Hello all of you. I have arranged meeting with Ben Wallace during his surgery hours this Friday 22nd May at 11.30 am. Please let me know if you can come (my number's 07814 295570). It would perhaps be good if we could meet for tea beforehand to prepare - propose 10am at Whaletail.

What I suggest is that (in line with PSCs call to UK government) we ask him to support:
urgent action re crisis in Gaza (ref national demo 16/5)
end Britain's support for the siege on the Palestinians
demand the release of elected representatives
respect Palestinian democracy
press for EU sanctions on Israel until the illegal occupation ends
end Britain's arms trade with Israel

as well as the following Early Day Motions:

EDM 698, 15th Jan 08: Hospital supplies in Gaza
EDM 624, 18th Dec 2007: Civilians in Gaza
EDM 305, 19th Nov 2007: Humanitarian situation in Gaza
EDM 1484, 6th May 2008: Anniversary of Palestinian Nakba
EDM 732, 21 Jan 2008: Humanitarian situation in Gaza

I'm not au fait with how the whole MP/parliamentary thing works - maybe some of you are - but I think its ok to approach as follows: inform Ben Wallace of the existence of the local & national PSC, what it does and what it calls on UK gov to do, to ask his position and whether he is willing (and how) he can represent our requests - and how the EDM thing works and whether he will sign them. Comments and support please :-)

Dear all

am hoping to make PSC meeting tomorrow but its not definite. Anyway, at the last meeting I committed to take on some work re lobbying:

Firrst of all, there is strong focus at the moment by PSC on lobbying MEPs as follows:

ask to support suspension of current EU trade agreement and delay adopting new agreement UNTIL ISRAEL COMPLIES WITH ITS HUMAN RIGHTS RESPONSIBILITIES

ask to oppose any arms trade with Israel

ask to call on EU Commission to ensure any new action plans will contain human rights clauses, as is standard practice, and will include a clause enabling the suspension of the agreement where human rights violations occur

We can lobby in person or by letter. We have 9 MEPs in Northwest and can lobby any or all of them.  The one based in Lancaster is Mr John Whittaker, UKIP (!!!): 7 King St, e-mail northwest@ukip. org.  But there is also Chris Davies (based in Stockport), LibDem who has been very vocal in support of Palestine and against policies and actions of Israeil government

PROPOSED ACTION: WE SEND THE ATTACHED LETTER FROM LANCASTER PSC (should we collect signatures?) TO ALL OUR MEPS

There is also activity around the EU elections 4th June. PSC are asking members to lobby candidates. Candidates will be published on EU website after 7th May. There will be 8 for Northwest. PSC also asking to use local media, which we could do when we know more.

Re lobbying MP Ben Wallace:

His next surgery is Friday 22nd May. How about we book an appointment collectively? (I can do that if there's agreement).  I suggest our approach is based on PSC campaigning: First thing is there's a national demo 16th May (Remember Gaza. End the Siege Now. Free Palestine) so we could refer to this. Second thing is, PSC website calls for the UK government to take urgent action on the crisis in Gaza and:

end Britain's support for the siege on the Palestinians
demand the release of elected representatives
respect Palestinian democracy
press for EU sanctions on Israel until the illegal occupation ends
end Britain's arms trade with Israel

so these could be our specific requests to Ben Wallace (but we should be well brushed-up on what these mean and the current situation)

We can also ask whether BW has signed/will sign relevant Early Day motions. EDMs are formal motions submitted for debate in the House of Commons (though few are actually debated). Mainly, they make public the views of MPs, draw attention to events/campaigns and demonstrate the extent of parliamentary support for particular cause/point of view.  Relevant EDMs (as far as I can see they are still alive though initiated a while ago) are

EDM 698, 15th Jan 08: Hospital supplies in Gaza
EDM 624, 18th Dec 2007: Civilians in Gaza
EDM 305, 19th Nov 2007: Humanitarian situation in Gaza
EDM 1484, 6th May 2008: Anniversary of Palestinian Nakba
EDM 732, 21 Jan 2008: Humanitarian situation in Gaza

ok, thats it, hope its helpful (meant I found out more about lobbying and what an EDM is!)

Sue

sorry but i can't make it on fri, had assumed it wasn't happening....

I think your suggestions are good Sue, and I agree with Annie to keep the focus on local group rather than national psc

hope it goes well

Hello all of you. I have arranged meeting with Ben Wallace during his surgery hours this Friday 22nd May at 11.30 am. Please let me know if you can come (my number's 07814 295570). It would perhaps be good if we could meet for tea beforehand to prepare - propose 10am at Whaletail.

and about your suggestions - I think that's a great list.
I wouldn't labour national PSC but emphasise local base, varied supporters, shpere of influence etc - its our votes he's interested in.
I think he can simply chose to sign an EDM so that a good statement of intent.
and maybe ask him what he's prepared to say that we could put in a press statement
and ask his advice (they like that) about suing the european elections to promote the European sanctions.
I think you'll be there awhile! annie

The one based in Lancaster is Mr John Whittaker, UKIP (!!!): 7 King St, e-mail northwest@....

As many of you will know I am a volunteer with the International Women's Peace Service, a solidarity and human rights group working in the West Bank, Palestine (www.iwps-pal.org). IWPS is the only international group maintaining a continous presence in Salfeet district, an area massively affected by the construction of the Wall and settlements.

IWPS urgently needs your help with fundraising!!

Its simple!! its easy!! Read on!!

We need 200 people to commit to giving 5 a month or 100 people to commit to giving 10 a month, as a standing order payable directly into IWPS's UK account.

I attach the standing order form.

Please ask 5 (or preferably more) people you know if they will make a monthly donation.

If lots of us ask a few people to commit to a monthly donation we can easily meet the target.

Please get involved! Its easy! It doesn't take much time!
And guaranteed it will make a huge difference to the work of IWPS!

If anyone does not have access to a printer, I can send hard copies. Email me your postal address.

The context to needing to increase our income through standing orders is that the grants we have been surviving off are rapidly coming to an end. The current financial and political climate makes it increasingly unlikely we will get further grants.

In peace and solidarity

please find below an appeal issued by the International Solidarity Movement in Palestine to aid with the medical expensives of Tristan Anderson, who was critically injured recently in Nil'in village in the Occupied West Bank, when the Israeli military opened fire on unarmed demonstrators.

Funds needed for Tristan Anderson’s medical expenses

Tristan Anderson, an American citizen, was critically injured during a demonstration in the West Bank village of Ni’lin. Anderson was shot in the head with a tear gas projectile from around 60 meters by Israeli forces on 13 March 2009. (See: http://palsolidarity.org/2009/03/5324 )

Tristan (38), is currently in Tel Hashomer hospital near Tel Aviv. To date, he has undergone 3 brain surgeries.  During the first operation, part of Tristan’s right frontal lobe had to be removed, as it was penetrated by bone fragments. A brain fluid leakage was sealed using a tendon from his thigh, and his right eye suffered extensive damage. The long-term scope of Tristan’s injuries is yet unknown.

Tristan has been a social justice activist for many years. He grew up in Oakland, California, where he was introduced to activism at a young age. Over the past years, Tristan has been involved in numerous projects, including Food Not Bombs, a group that cooks for the homeless, and an operation committed to stopping the destruction of tree groves in Berkley California through sit-in demonstrations. He recently traveled to the West Bank to show solidarity with the Palestinian people.

As Tristan has been in intensive care for three weeks, it is certain that his recovery process is accompanied by mounting medical expenses. We ask that supporters around the world donate what they can to help pay for Tristan’s care. He is without medical insurance in the United States and will need substantial financial assistance to continue the long-term treatment that his injuries will require.

Tax deductible donations  can be made through the Northern California ISM Chapter.  Please make checks out to ISM Support Group, with Tristan Anderson Fund as the memo line.  Please mail to

some of you may have already heard the terrible news about Tristan Anderson, a 38 year old American citizen, who is in critical condition after being shot in the head with a long range tear gas cannister.  According to the latest update from Israeli anti-occupation activists in Tel Aviv, Tristan's condition remains the same.
I have included below the reports issued by the Israeli Anarchists Against the Wall and the International Solidarity Movement, whose members were also present in Nil'in when Tristan was shot.

Also included is a link to the video footage shot just after Tristan was hit (please note it may cause distress to some)

Since December last year, the Israeli military has been using a new type of tear gas cannister.  The new tear gas is a black canister, labelled “40mm bullet, special/extended range” in Hebrew.   According to AATW it has a range of over 400 meters and emits a very faint sound when fired and leaves hardly any smoke tail at all, thus making it extremely difficult to avoid.  The older style cannisters emited a smoke tail and a whizzing sound when fired.

Despite it being illegal under Israeli military operations laws, the Israeli military often use teargas as a weapon rather than a "crowd control" agent.  Under Israeli military operation regulations and law, tear gas cannisters should not be fired directly at the bodies of protestors as they can cause serious injury or death.

According to AATW, the Israeli military have also started to once again fire Ruger .22 bullets into peaceful demonstrations in the Occupied West Bank.

Israeli anti-occupation activists are currently organising demonstrations to take place in Tel Aviv and there have been calls for international demonstrations in support of Tristan and the people of Nil'in to also take place.   Please consider if you can participate in or organise such a demonstration.

American Protester Critically Injured by Soldiers in Ni'ilin

13/03/2009
Anarchists Against the Wall
http://www.awalls.org/tristan

Tristan Anderson, 38, an American citizen, was critically injured on Friday by Israeli troops during protests against Israel's Wall in the West Bank village of Ni’lin. He was hit in his forehead by a new type of high velocity, extended range teargas projectile, and has been transferred to Tel Hashomer hospital, near Tel Aviv. Tristan is unconscious, anesthetized and artificially respirated, has sustained life-threatening injuries to his brain (as well as to his right eye), and is expected to undergo several operations in the coming days, in addition to the one he underwent today.

The impact of the projectile caused numerous condensed fractures to Anderson's forehead and right eye socket. During the operation, part of his right frontal lobe had to be removed, as it was penetrated by bone fragments. A brain fluid leakage was sealed using a tendon from his thigh, and both his right eye and skin suffered extensive damage. The long term scope of all of Tristan's injuries is yet unknown. It should also be noted that soldiers at the Ni'ilin checkpoint prevented the Red Crescent ambulance from taking Tristan directly to the hospital, forcing it to wait for approximately 15 minutes until an Israeli ICU ambulance (called by Israeli activists) arrived at the scene, after which he had to be carried from one ambulance to the other. This, of course, is standard procedure - in the extremely rare cases where the army allows patients from the occupied territories to be tranferred into Israel.

Tristan was hit while standing with a fellow protester inside the village, several hours after the army initially attacked a protest march of Ni'ilin's residents (joined by Israeli and international activists) who attempted to march onto their own lands in the vicinity of the wall. As opposed to previous demonstrations, this week protesters managed to actually reach the road on which the wall is currently being built, and even caused damage to parts of the razor-wire protecting the site, as well as to the newly erected fence segments of the barrier. Israeli troops dispersed demonstrators by using large amounts of teargas and rubber coated steel bullets, driving everyone back into the village. Soldiers then followed the crowd and proceeded to shoot concussion grenades, teargas canisters, rubber coated steel bullets and even live ammunition into the village, to which many of Ni'ilin's youth responded with slingshots, trying to drive the army away from the outskirts of the village.

Anderson's injury is part of a recent escalation in the army's violent attempts to suppress Palestinian unarmed popular resistance to the occupation. Israeli troops have been using the new teargas canister since December 2008, coinciding with the beginning of Israel's ruthless assault on Gaza. The black canister, labelled “40mm bullet, special/extended range” in Hebrew, has a range of over 400 meters, emits a very faint sound when fired and leaves hardly any smoke tail at all – making it extremely difficult to avoid. Furthermore, and against the army's own regulations, soldiers routinely shoot it directly towards demonstrators, as opposed to in an arched trajectory. The combination of all these factors has led to numerous severe injuries from the projectiles, including a fractured skull and a broken leg suffered by Palestinians earlier this year.

a new, "extended range" teargas projectile, similar to the one fired at Tristan's head. Photo: ISM Palestinea new, "extended range" teargas projectile, similar to the one fired at Tristan's head. Photo: ISM Palestine

In addition, Israel has resumed its use of sniper-fire, shot from a suppressed Ruger 10/22 rifle, as a means of crowd dispersal. This was forbidden by the army itself already in late 2001, after the Judge Advocate General at the time reclassified the Ruger as "live ammunition" for all intents and purposes, following numerous deaths of demonstrators as well as tests carried out in military shooting ranges.

During the Friday clashes in Ni'ilin, two other Palestinians and one international were lightly injured after being hit by teargas canisters, while a third Palestinian was shot in his leg with live ammunition by a sniper, and was evacuated to a hospital in Ramallah.

Updates below Press Release

For Immediate Release

13th Friday 2009, Ni’lin Village: An American citizen has been critically injured in the village of Ni’lin after Israeli forces shot him in the head with a tear-gas canister.

Tristan Anderson from California USA, 37 years old, has been taken to Israeli hospital Tel Hashomer, near Tel Aviv. Anderson is unconscious and has been bleeding heavily from the nose and mouth. He sustained a large hole in his forehead where he was struck by the canister. He is currently being operated on.

Tristan was shot by the new tear-gas canisters that can be shot up to 500m. I ran over as I saw someone had been shot, while the Israeli forces continued to fire tear-gas at us. When an ambulance came, the Israeli soldiers refused to allow the ambulance through the checkpoint just outside the village. After 5 minutes of arguing with the soldiers, the ambulance passed.
– Teah Lunqvist (Sweden) - International Solidarity Movement

The Israeli army began using to use a high velocity tear gas canister in December 2008. The black canister, labeled in Hebrew as “40mm bullet special/long range,” can shoot over 400 meters. The gas canister does not make a noise when fired or emit a smoke tail. A combination of the canister’s high velocity and silence is extremely dangerous and has caused numerous injuries, including a Palestinian male whose leg was broken in January 2009.

Tristan Anderson

Tristan Anderson was shot as Israeli forces attacked a demonstration against the construction of the annexation wall through the village of Ni’lin’s land. Another resident from Ni’lin was shot in the leg with live ammunition.

Four Ni’lin residents have been killed during demonstrations against the confiscation of their land.

Ahmed Mousa (10) was shot in the forehead with live ammunition on 29th July 2008.  The following day, Yousef Amira (17) was shot twice with rubber-coated steel bullets, leaving him brain dead.  He died a week later on 4 August 2008. Arafat Rateb Khawaje (22), was the third Ni’lin resident to be killed by Israeli forces.  He was shot in the back with live ammunition on 28 December 2008.  That same day, Mohammed Khawaje (20), was shot in the head with live ammunition, leaving him brain dead.  He died three days in a Ramallah hospital.

Residents in the village of Ni’lin have been demonstrating against the construction of the Apartheid Wall, deemed illegal by the International Court of Justice in 2004. Ni’lin will lose approximately 2500 dunums of agricultural land when the construction of the Wall is completed. Ni’lin was 57,000 dunums in 1948, reduced to 33,000 dunums in 1967, currently is 10,000 dunums and will be 7,500 dunums after the construction of the Wall.

Updates:
Orly Levi, a spokeswoman at the Tel Hashomer hospital, tells Ha’aretz:

He’s in critical condition, anesthetized and on a ventilator and undergoing imaging tests,” She described Anderson’s condition as life-threatening.

Israeli activist Jonathan Pollack told Ynet:

… the firing incident took place inside the village and not next to the fence. There were clashes in the earlier hours, but he wasn’t part of them. He didn’t throw stones and wasn’t standing next to the stone throwers.

There was really no reason to fire at them. The Dutch girl standing next to him was not hurt. It only injured him, like a bullet.

13 March: Anarchists Against the Wall reports on Tristan’s condition (volunteers with AWALLS were present when Tristan was injured and have been at the hospital to oversee his treatment):

The impact of the projectile caused numerous condensed fractures to Anderson’s forehead and right eye socket. During the operation part of his right frontal lobe had to be removed, as it was penetrated by bone fragments. A brain fluid leakage was sealed using a tendon from his thigh, and both his right eye and skin suffered extensive damage. The long term scope of all of Tristan’s injuries is yet unknown.

There will be a day for the oppressor when he will be crushed like garlic - Palestinian proverb.

Some came and took our land, forced us to leave, forced us to live in camps. I think this is terrorism. Using means to resist this terrorism and stop its effects - this is called struggle." — Leila Khaled

Remember the solidarity shown to Palestine here and everywhere... and remember also that there is a cause to which many people have committed themselves, difficulties and terrible obstacles notwithstanding. Why? Because it is a just cause, a noble ideal, a moral quest for equality and human rights - Edward Said

Do you want to do something practical and concrete in response to recent events in Gaza?

Then help fill a van that will be leaving Lancaster on Feb 12th to travel overland to Egypt!

Gareth Matthews is joining the Viva Palestina convoy of vehicles that will be leaving London on Feb 14th (www.vivapalestina.org). He is collecting childrens clothes, childrens toys/books, mens clothes and warm blankets/duvets (womens clothes will be purchased in Egypt). He also needs to raise approx £3000 to cover the cost of fuel and travel expenses.

Viva Palestina is the response of ordinary people from across the UK organising and showing solidarity with the people of Gaza

To make donations please contact Gareth (after 7.30pm any evening) on 0759 4966948 or Alys on 07813 800540 alysjenkins@...

Great - saw Gareth Sunday eve, in Preston - excellent that you are so quick to respond. Hope collecting goes well. It looks as though Mary and I, from Tarleton, Preston, will also be going. We went to Manchester organising meeting tonight. "Send a Valentine to Palestine !"

Just to let everyone know we raised 900 last night at the Gaza fundraising gig.
This will be split between Map & FreeGaza.

I have sent the cheque to Map today. Am currently having difficulties accessing the Freegaza site to make payment, but will hopefully be able to do it later today.

Thanks to everyone involved in organising & to everyone who came along
