Hi Steve, was looking through your photos - "Pelham Puppets in the
museum" and was curious to know why your schoolmaster has so much hair
on his face?? Is it his eyebrows?! Best Wishes! Jamie
PS I also noticed your schoolmaster is the early one like mine.

hi jamie yes big eyebrows but missing right hand sideburns hope to
correct soon going out tomorrow to collect sheeps wool off the fences
around the fields at porlock weir.
I must say a big thank you to David leech the talk and display's
were fantastic, it was nice to meet a few of you and finally put
names to faces and we were very lucky with the weather.
the Porlock visitor centre were most helpful and we will be opening
a few more times this year watch this space.
we had roughly 200 people through the doors over the two days and
every one realy enjoyed themselves

hi can i please remind people of copywright and use of pictures on this
site ,pictures on this site have descriptions and used out of context
and without descriptions could be harmful to the museum.
pictures can be used with prior permission ,some of the pictures on this
site are not mine and have been used with permission
I have had to do this as i found one of my pictures (totally
unflattering of the museum in the building stage) being used on another
site the picture had virtualy empty shelves . And was put up on this
site for interest only
thanks and enjoy this crazy late summer

Its like waiting for Christmas to come... My aunt told me that when she was a
little girl, she
snuck down and opened all the christmas gift to see what everyone had gotten.
She
rewrapped the gift ,but, got the tags all wrong. That year my Grandfather got a
tea cosy and
a ladies bonnet.... There was a lot of explaining to do.... I will exercise my
patience here and
avoid a similar mishap.By the way: Thank you for all you are doing for us, and I
can't wait to

I'll attach some pictures of what I'm making right now for you to look at. The snow white is ok except I need a different head ( I used an old beat up Dutch Girl) because I haven't had time to make a new body and head for her yet, I just made the outfit and then got too busy at work to finish. Mike.. you are a very very good painter I must say.
And it's funny. those are the heads that I'm not too fond of on the snow white.I like he earlier ones from he fifties with the eyes on an angle. The detail on Jack is great .
I live in Chicago and my Sister lives in Detroit. together we make puppets and we are constantly sending pics of Ideas. Feel free to send me new stuff if you want.
Though I am a modernist in ideas , I am not in materials. so I tend to stay away from polyesters and stick to silks and wools and such.... Having said that, I DO love resins , and aluminum for the bodies. Just a personal choice. It would be interesting to hear what you have to say about that...BTW you are also a fantastic tailor.
I'm hear on yahoo messenger so feel free to drop me a chat.

Open message to you all. The date I have been given for the release of
the book is Oct 27. It will be available from my new website and
bookshops in the UK and USA and I believe Canada. The publisher is
Crowood Press.
The date of the website going live is: I do not know!
All I know is that it is in the finishing stages and I hope it will be
up and running later this week. When it is I will let you all know.
What I can tell you, is that, in fact it will never really be complete!
I intend to update it every few weeks to keep it fresh and lively.
There will be a discussion forum, a quarterly edition of PELPUP NEWS
21, (there will be a small annual subscription charge for this) there
is the puppetry shop, several sections about the history, a Pelham
Puppet parade, that will be added to as an ongoing project.
Our aim is to make it the Home of Pelham Puppets with pages that I hope
will interest collectors and part of it will be the section where the
new puppets and associated items, new book of plays, props scenery
etc., will be obtainable.
It will all happen in stages, not all at once. A huge amount of work
has gone into the whole project, I have had a great amount of support
from several people and, whilst I know, "you cannot please all the
people all of the time, we will try to please most people, most of the
time!"
If you think you are having a hard time waiting for all this to happen,
try and imagine what it is like for poor little ol' me!
Anyway, thank you all for your comments and for your interest in my
efforts, but I must add that several people have helped greatly with
this, it is not, and I will never claim it to be, one man's work.

these seem to be in the news a lot lately PP sites come and go just
google pelham puppets and ignore all the ebay crap mostly out of date
anyway plus other auction sites there, are loads of sites all giving
information on PP,s some is original some is blatantly copied from other
sites i have even seen some just quote word for word from the old
testament.
Sites that use other peoples work including photo,s script and even
ebay photo,s where not credited to the original owner, or used with
out permission
WELL ONLY THING TO SAY ABOUT THEM

LOL do you think that could stand up in a law court?

"yeah your honour, I know I stole everybody elses work, mixed it up
with un researched nonsense of my own and then copyrighted as being
all my own work but i'm not nasty and deceitful, it's everyone else
who is nasty your honour"

I realise that we all use reference sources and will always be quoting
from this and that source etc which is where I think the saying stems
from but if Imitation is the highest form of flattery, this is like
Frakensteins monster gatecrashing your own party and pretending to be you.

i see a lot of stuff missing off one of the new pelham sites taken down
because of copyright infringement but when i complained about my work
being used on said site i was removed from the members list and told
this is a friendly group and we don,t want trouble makers on here the
picture in question was used out of context and with know explanation
as to what it was ,it was a picture showing the building and development
of the museum and i felt it was damaging to the museum showing half
empty shelves .The response to that was i thought it was a nice picture.
Change of subject
I was at Ally Pally Antiques Fair yesterday slightly disapionted to
find only two PP,s out of over 600 stalls but had a look any way
one was a 1950's prince charming the other a 1950's poodle
the prince charming was in amazing condition except for the string thick
heavy white stuff, the poodle a white one with rabbit fur, had badly
tangled strings the price each (now i hope you are all sitting down
using your computers)
was an amazing ninety five pounds each as the dealer told me i must
have reacted in total shock because she then stated they are old ones
any way i stood my ground and had a chat about them and she admitted
that they don't know a lot about pp,s and had paid very highly for them
she did say she was open to offers so i said i rather not as i would
not like to insult her

Well I am sorry you have also had a run in with the attitude from that
site and some of its "friendly" but highly delusional members.
There are a growing amount of people who seem to have also fallen foul
of a certain "faces" antics, so if I were you I would wear it as a
badge of honour.
I suspect it is especially galling when it's part of your business and
possibly doing it harm by showing pictures of it half finished.
Then just to be shrugged off as if there is no implication.
I should not be surprised though having seen the badly restored and
doctored goods sold as genuine items over ebay, It seems scruples are
scant in certain peoples minds.

As for the prices at the moment on ebay, They are pretty extreme in
areas, and this can spill out onto the Antiques Market, oh well at
least some sellers are going to have a good christmas.

Now i'm just gonna route out an old minipup ceasar and a jumpette
florence and then book my ticket on a round the world cruise.....

and there again ... maybe not!

Well Technically it is supposed to be 18/3 polished linen thread.

It seems that this was used by the saddlery and carpet industries as
well as show manufacturing. Now it has been replaced with a man made
and more robust fibre or the process changed altogether so the need
for it has almost disappeared.
The only area still using it seems to be book binding.

You can get 18/4 which is slightly thicker as it has four strands in
its make up but poses problems because the knots are slightly bigger
etc and it does not hang as well as the thinner.

A very experienced puppeteer once told me that the worst thing you can
do with the carpet thread is to spin the puppets around on themselves
because this opens up the twist of the thread and so breaks it down
even more quickly. .... Interesting!
