CRIME ALERT
Monday 31st March 2003
Telephone Fraud
A scam is operating that is targeting females. The female receives a
phone call asking them to confirm their postcode. They are told that
they have become eligible for an award and asked to provide their
home address. So far, 90% of the women who have provided this
information have been burgled.
It has also been reported that if you receive a telephone call from an
individual who identifies him/herself as a BT Service Technician who is
conducting a test (or if anyone else ask you) to do the following
DON'T… They state that to complete the test, dial 9 (nine) 0 (zero)
and # (square key) and hang up. This gives them full access to your
phone line and allows them to place any type of call, which will be
billed to your account. DO NOT PRESS 90# FOR ANYONE.
Theft from motor vehicles
A car was broken into in Beverley Way (Tesco's supermarket car
park) and a Panasonic car stereo was stolen. The suspect is
described as: -
A white male wearing a checked style ¾ length jacket. He was seen
to escape in a blue 4-door saloon car, possibly a Vauxhall and also a
partial registration number E284W**.
Any sightings of the car and the suspect (believed to be committing
crime) ring 999 or Wimbledon Control Room on 0208 947 1212.
