Burglary artifice - There has been a spate of bogus callers in recent
weeks. The last one occurred on Friday 2nd May 2003 at
Canterbury Road, Morden at 2.30pm. The suspects stated they were
from social services and were accompanied by a 2 year old male
child. The suspects are described as: -
White female about 30 years old. She has long brown hair tied in a
ponytail.
White male about 35 years old, short brown wavy hair. He was
wearing a red sweater.
There were 2 identical offences the previous week.
Letterbox burglary - During the night, the occupier of a premise in
Braemer Avenue, SW19 was disturbed by a noise and went
downstairs to investigate. He saw a stick of bamboo poking through
his letterbox with his keys hooked on the end.
This method has been used in the borough before so please be careful
about leaving your keys or valuables in your hallway. There is also a
device available from DIY stores, which simply hooks on the
letterbox inside the house, which directs all implements directly to the
floor.
Wimbledon Park Burglar – There has been a spate of burglaries in
this area, particularly around Vineyard Hill road and surrounding
streets. The burglaries usually occur between 6.45pm and 10pm.
Most of these have been committed at the rear of the premises and
the alarm system has either been evaded or activated. In half of these
burglaries, the suspect has climbed on a flat roof to gain entry.
Colliers Wood Burglar - This area, particularly the northern part of
Colliers Wood (Boundary Road to Byegrove Road) has seen an
increase in burglaries. Most have occurred between 6pm to 8am.
Entry has been gained by smashing the rear window or forcing the
front window or door with a crowbar type implement.
If you have any information or see any suspects ring 999 in an
emergency or call Wimbledon Control Room on 0208 947 1212.
