Breaking News: Series 51 of Sooty put on hold by CITV   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #258 of 643 |
Dear Brian and People on your Yahoo Group,
Unfortunately Sooty was not reaching the audience it was created for
and this is the reason it is now replaced in the schedule with
Tutenstein. 2 of the 4 episodes shown were brand new while 2 were
repeats. We will try to show the remaining untransmitted episodes
later this year, possibly during the Summer. As you say in your
email, Sooty was bringing in 850,000 viewers in previous series
although in this showing only reached between 200,000-300,000
viewers. We would prefer to hold onto the series in order to give it
a better chance with the viewers another time.

Kind regards

I don't know about you but this sucks to use my words kindly As Sooty
isn't a normal January Show and is usually a September show and for
THE SECOND TIME they have move around Sooty.
It should be treated with some respect as Sooty is the longest show
ever but that fact hardly raises a eyebrow with the powers that be
and are treating it like 'another kids show' which it ain't.
Then you have the whole Gullane being taken over by Hit and then Hit
wanting nothing to do with it but Enterainment Rights might. While
this is nothing to worry over its Sooty does need some help and with
the fact that the episodes you've just watch, until future notice
will be class as Series 52 as this is the 52nd year.
And you have to remember Series 49 did took a huge blow to Sooty
overall and is still being felt now. The fact it use alot of script
meaning Butch became a main character (and when wrote in he wasn't
one bit nice which it was hard to think of him in the line-up) and
less action meaning poor quite little cousion Scampi got left out.
Those problems got fix and this season became the best since Sooty &
Co but Series 49 for one reason or another Brenda Longman, the voice
of Soo and Brian Sandford the helping 'hand' for Sweep quit and
rightfully so but its good now and i hope they might come back. With
20 episodes looking like to be shown across three years and a series
not being made in 2003 and now until future notice 2004, Sooty needs
help to make it the jewel in the crown again of kids shows. With
these episodes they have a homage to Harry Corbett and uses the same
or likely similar puppets in their first appearance. With Scampi and
Butch made to look the same, Soo looked like a jazz up version of the
first puppet of Soo and Miki looking like a Kipper alot.
Am sure its going to come back strongly and with someone like
Enterainment Rights will trust in the long running show and help it
here and worldwide but for now this is just a bump in the road.
If you personally want to tell CITV to not mess around with a much-
loved Series and angry that they are treating Sooty like another kids
show and want them to treat it with respect then follow the links
found on this page http://www.citv.co.uk/sayit/email.xml and in kind
words like myself showcase your strong opinion.
BRIAN
