Episode Review: Sooty & Co - Bubble Trouble   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #437 of 643 |
Here's the second episode from the first Series of Sooty & Co up for
review .Mainly because writing my type of Sooty Reviews take time to
write but i promise more will be on the way Starting with the First
Season of Sooty & Co and then the two episodes of Year 52 of Sooty.
So this is my review of 'Bubble Trouble' and please discuss what you
think of the review, do you agree the episode rating of 7 out of 10
and what is your comments on the second episode of Sooty & Co as
there needs to be some active chat on this board to comment about
all things Sooty so start with this discussion.

BUBBLE TROUBLE
(Second episode of the first series of Sooty & Co and its 41st
season)
There's Bubble Trouble for Sooty and friends when Sweep decides to
make his own bubble mixture and gets more than he bargains for!
Sooty too, enters into the spirit of the bubble business by becoming
a scuba diver, with hilarious results all round.
Rating: 7 out of 10

Everybody who loves Sooty and this series Sooty and Co will know the
episode `Bubble Trouble'. In a weird way that is what's wrong with
it because in different forms it has repeated FIVE TIMES. On the VCI
and Granada video release of "Moving In and Bubble Trouble", Twice
with members of the Sooty Club, in Woolworth's exclusive "Children's
Pre School Complication" video and repeated on CITV at a 4.00pm slot
on Wednesday when either Year 3 or 4 of Sooty & Co was being shown
on Monday. With great episodes in later seasons like Series 4 which
apart from a couple of shows, the whole season has never seen a
video release. Remember this season includes A Pain in Spain, When I
Was a Lad and Lonely Hearts. Don't get me wrong this episode is very
good but isn't very high in the returning factor.

Second episode in the new series and some things never change. When
we first see Matthew he's in his bedroom and has got something to
boast about to us with Sooty popping up to hear what the fuss is
about. Almost 60 seconds has passed and it feels "The Sooty Show"
never went away but since Thames Television lost the franchise to
Granada TV and they re launched the show as "Sooty & Co" you might
feel this is an unused script from that past series but is it a good
thing they are recycling?

We learn that Matthew is boasting about having a license to dive
underwater. After boasting about being good at water sports in the
past, it's great that old themes for episodes keep returning. Of
course Sooty also says he's train and has a license to dive
underwater so the madness of this over expose episode begins. Sweep
and Soo plays with bubbles (what did you expect with an episode
called `Bubble Trouble'… Monkeys?) And Sweep is upset when the
bubble Soo has burst because of his nose, but doesn't understand
that bubbles are made from soap.

We see Sooty playing with bubbles also with his bubble pipe and as
Sweep doesn't have any mixture to blow bubbles with, he cannot play
with his friends Soo and Sooty. I never thought I would be using the
words "pipe" and "mixture" to describe a Sooty episode but here I am
just using those words. Let's leave any drug undertones to The Magic
Roundabout thank you very much.

As Sweep doesn't have any mixture he makes his own batch in the
bathroom with all the soap products he can find. Matthew is pleased
with the peace and quiet and then he talks to us that you can get
the same when you are diving underwater but then discovers something
making bubbles in the water tank. At first he thinks he's imagining
things, but when whatever in the tank takes a-whole of Matthew's
stick, He gets very worried.

We then see Sweep up in the bathroom as he uses a battery to help
with the bubbles but as always his actions causes mayhem. Matthew
takes a break and is still worried about the water tank, tries to
offer us balloons until Soo comes along to speak with Matthew as
Sooty is bored and Sweep is sulking. When Matthew tells Soo about
his troubles, she thinks he is telling porky pies so he shows her
the trouble outside at the water tank. We quickly check on Sweep and
see the room is full of bubbles and he doesn't know what to do.

When Soo sees the moving stick in the water tank and what he can do,
she is amazed and can't believe what she is seeing. Matthew is
scared to put his hand in the water because of what might be inside,
then the thing pulls him into the water with Matthew almost drowning
but we soon find out that the thing in the water tank is Sooty, the
water diver.

But that is only one trouble over; Sweep is holding the bathroom
door shut because of the bubbles inside while Sooty and Soo want to
use the bath and shower. After this mayhem we get Matthew giving us
warning never to play in deep water as its dangerous and I agree and
glad he gave this advice. Now its time for a old Sooty routine, "the
magic floating bubble" which has been done for years with both Harry
and Matthew Corbett and recently with Richard. If you haven't seen
this trick lets say there isn't a clue in the title and the fun is
how the magic trick routine ends up.

Sooty and Sweep take some balloons to blow up, Sweep blows up the
balloons with water and Sooty tries to make a dog and a swan out of
balloons but fails to get it right. Soo tells Matthew that Sweep
filled the balloons with water and he makes the mistake of wanted
those balloons "down here right now" and they do come down like
water bombs and weirdly hits Matthew perfectly. Sweep is upset so
Matthew ask Sooty to fill the Dining/Living/Kitchen/Study room with
Bubbles and Balloons and then we get a fun song sung by Matthew and
the gang

In Closing, I stand by my claim that this is an over expose episode
when other episodes should be made more public. Bubble Trouble while
just a normal episode and a letdown after Moving In, which perfectly
re launched Sooty and the gang to a new audience. The episode is
worth checking out but my advice is watch later episodes in later
seasons.

QOUTES

Matthew: Is this the face of someone who's got a major achievement
Sooty: No, it's the face of someone who boasts a lot

Sooty: I'm a qualified diver too!

Sweep: Soo, its not there anymore
Soo: That's because you burst it with your nose you stupid dog.

Matthew: I'm lucky to be alive

Matthew: I knew it was him all the time

Matthew: Sweep, You're not allowed those balloons in the bedroom and
I want them down here right now.

GOOFS AND NIPICKS

Strangely there is no credits for Floor Manager, Sound or Camera for
this episode where is clear these people where use in this episode.

Why use an original brand `Soap Flakes' and also use a popular
brand `Fairy' is the same bathroom?

Why is Derek the Duck place on Soo's cabinet on the bottom right
shelf and not in the bathroom?

You wonder when this was filmed when you spot the poster for `Grand
Xmas' in the shop.

The clock in the Dining/Living/Kitchen/Study room is working and we
find out the time Bubble Trouble happen was between 10.20am to
7.10pm
