With it being Halloween, I feel it's the right time to re-post
Episode Reviews from over all 57 Years of Sooty. For this edition
there is re-post of episode reviews from The Sooty Show, Sooty
Heights and Sooty all with either a Halloween or Scary theme.
These reviews were written ages ago and my recent reviews have got
more detail now but I hope you enjoyed reading the reviews anyway.
As always you are feel to reply to this post to give your views of
my reviews but do remember you are allowed to post any comments
about anything relating to Sooty. Like would you like to see
Halloween or Scary Theme episodes from over 57 Years of Sooty
released on a Halloween/Scary Theme Sooty DVD?
Remember 'Halloween Special no.01' is full of older reviews while an
upcoming 'Halloween Special no.02' is full of reviews I've just
written.

SOOTY

Episode Review: Sooty - The Night Of A Thousand Bears (09 out of 10)

For a long time Movie Spoofs have been in Sooty, With Sweep as Super
Dog to name but one. In this episode has the fun of a good film.
Vicki is so nervous about her solo show that she put red spots on
her face and says they are chicken pots. When Richard and Vicki
leave for the show, Richard leaves Soo in charge of Sooty Heights
much to Sooty, Sweep and Miki's sadness. But Are friends get so
over-
worked with Soo jobs that Sooty has a idea of making more pairs of
hands to help.
Sooty's idea was to make more Sootys so they didn't had to do
any
housework. Soo gets trick by Sooty's Plan and complains to Sweep
and
Miki that they haven't done any housework. Soo picks up on Sootys
idea and forces Sooty to make even more Sootys. Soo becomes bossier
with all the Sootys and when she orders them to do all the chores
they attack with cream pies then they Capture Sweep and tied him up.
The friends got out just in time leaving Sweep behind, But when Soo
becomes more bossy and order Sooty to magic them away, Sootys Magic
Wand goes down the pug-hole leaving are friends in even more danger.
Miki tells Soo off and calls her A Bossy Bear Brain. Then after that
Vicki comes back from the show and has to tell her what's happen.
Sooty and Miki puts their plan in action and go up to the
visitor's
rooms. When the visitor asks `why are you cutting a hole in my
floor?' and Miki replies `so I can put Sooty in the kitchen
to get
the magic wand and save Sweep from a room of Evil versions of
himself?'
Are visitor is a writer with writers block and this has given him an
idea. This next scene totally spoofs Mission Impossible with Sooty
being lower to get the magic wand. This episodes song also totally
spoofs Indiana Jones and that is just great even if the song
isn't.
But while Soo and Vicki tried and save Sweep they get capture also,
but it wasn't so after Sooty got his magic wand back and
everything
was back to normal. And are writer friend got the idea for his book
and he calls it The Night Of A Thousand Bears.
The highlight of this show has to be the many film spoofs just are
full with laugher each time you see them. Hardly any flaws what so
ever and The People at Gullane, when you make Sootys 50th series
keep up this sort of quality.

THE SOOTY SHOW

THE UNREAL GHOSTBUSTERS
(Aired in 1988, Sooty's 36th Season. On VHS `Sooty Wants A
Pet')
Rating: 8 out of 10

With what you find about The Sooty Show is you have episodes you
loved and remember fondly. Those episodes you were scare or impress
about when you were four but now in your teens you wonder why.
`The
Unreal Ghostbusters' falls to the latter as you need to be in the
age range Sooty aims for to get the full understanding of this
episode. But lets remember how you felt watching this and judge it
from that.

We look into Matthew's room and we see he isn't there but a
ghostly
image is. After being slightly scared we found out its Matthew
playing a trick on us but didn't mean to scare us too much. In
the
gang's bedroom, Soo is reading Sooty a ghost story and he is very
scared. Sweep being naughty made spooky noises at the really scary
bits of the story but all he what's to do is go walkies.

At the breakfast table, Sooty wonders what they would do if they
meet a ghost. Sweep would tell a bad joke and run away, Soo would
vacuum it up like in the film Ghostbusters and Sooty would use his
water pistol as it gets rid of Sweep quickly enough. Matthew who
isn't scared about anything takes on a bet to spend a night at a
spooky hotel and if he loses and doesn't spend the night at the
hotel, he has to buy our friends a fish and chips supper.

Lots of Kudos must be given to the set designer of the hotel bedroom
scene and effects recent episodes of Sooty would of fought for. With
a picture, which follows you around the room, candles that turn on
and off, clothes that put themselves on the handles and bookworms
that squirt water. But the best effect of all is making a ghostly
image of Matthew as the ghost who haunts the room. Excellent stuff
which proves how to use a budget of not much money and turn it into
something great. He's glad it was they playing a trick as it
proves
that ghost aren't real and you shouldn't be scared.

For this episode from the 36th season has childhood memories for
people who remember it and while we look back on it and wonder why
we were scare, children of today looking back on this would be
feeling the same way we need when we were a child. The Unreal
Ghostbusters holds a place in your memories and is watchable
whenever you next watch it.

SOOTY HEIGHTS

TOURIST THROUGH THE NIGHT*
(The 10th episode of the 47th Series of Sooty (First Season of Sooty
Heights)
Rating: 5 out of 10

Everyone expect Liana can't get to sleep on this stormy night at
Sooty Heights. When Liana is waked by all the screams from the
others, She goes and tells them everything's all right. Soo and
Richard starts of singing a sweet lovely song but ends off scaring
everyone else even more, so it's up Liana to helped them get to
sleep……… for now.

Scampi hears something down stairs and wakes up everyone else.
It's
really Sweep wanting to gets midnight coco and making a huge noise,
but ends up being squirt by Sooty's water pistol, as they all
think
he's a ghost. Sooty cleans everything up with the magic wand and
every tries to get back to sleep. It's only a few hours until the
German visitors are to arrive, And Sweep, like the train wreck
builds up on the trouble as he picks up the phone to hear the German
visitors will arrive early but are doggy friend falls asleep.

Dotty lets the German visitors in with her spare key, but Sweep
mistakes her as a burglar. Getting Sooty's help, he gets his
water
pistol and ends up squirting Dotty in the confusion. And Richard
joins them as he pours flour over Dotty, thinking she's a ghost
and
Sooty & Sweep also pour flour over her as well for the same reason.

Liana goes along with them and calls the police thinking there's
a
ghost/burglar. The policeman gets upset he's on a false alarm but
gets cheer up when he gets called to a `real' burglary.
Promise to
remember Dotty's flour covered face he goes off to the other case.

Dotty finally explains she let in the German visitors, Sweep then
explain he took the call they were coming and admitted he fell
asleep. But it ends up that Richard, Liana and Sooty & Co were up
all night and it will be other 24 hours until they finally get to
there nice warm bed.

As Sooty Heights is filmed on the set used in Fawtly Towers you get
reminded off their madcap humour involving Germans mix with the
crazy mayhem of a normal day (well night in this case) of Sooty
Heights and I have to say that the two very different art forms
don't collide too well. The Laughter is are friends trying to get
to
sleep basically but stretching it out to get a laugh from the noises
down stairs was a mistake. And Slapstick with Sooty & Sweep thinking
Dotty's a burglar and Richard thinking she was a ghost never had
a
good back- bone; meaning Brenda Longman gets covered with flour but
the audience is left clueless. While it started off funny, they had
nothing to follow the high standard from the first scene.

There are better episodes of Sooty Heights from season one, so my
guess is the creators run out of good ideas before the series end.

Episode Review: Sooty - You Don't Scare Me (07 out of 10)

Are you keeping count of the movie spoofs feature in this series,
Well most people have lost count but we now add two more to that
figure.
Sooty, Sweep, Miki are watching one of Vicki's videos without her
knowing. They are watching Lunchtime at the Brain-Gobbers with Sooty
being scared stiff, Sweep being a little worried and Miki now gives
new meaning to the name scary cat. Richard destroys the mould that
Vicki is making of him for school. Richard wants to know why
they're
watching the scary film and finds Sooty scared stiff.
Richard tells the friends to go outside because it's better than
staying inside. So outside the friends play cricket and also
frighten each other with scary mask. During their game they broke a
window and when they receive their ball back from the room they see
the man from the scary film they were watching. Vicki leaves her
mould in the hands of Richard to practise the lines for the Brain-
Gobbers 2 film with the actor.
But are friends believed that the Brain-Gobber is holding Vicki
hostage so they try and save her. So another movie spoof comes to
Sooty in the form of Batman & Robin with Sooty being Batman and Miki
being Robin. But our friends are soon to know that the Brain-Gobber
is only an actor and learn not to get their minds running wild. A
nice episode
