SOOTY'S BABY
(first aired 24/07/03?)
Rating: 7 out of 10
It's April Fools Day at Hotel Sooty and the duo of Sooty and Sweep
are playing tricks on Richard because of the special day (they pull
tricks on Richard everyday but today is extra special).
Richard who has been the blunt of all their jokes every year decides
not to be caught out by the pair this time and hides Sooty's wand.
Sooty finally catch Richard out and then decides to magic Richard
back in time to find where Richard has hidden the wands. Meanwhile
Butch distracts Sooty and Sweep while Sooty is sending Richard
backwards. When Butch has his fun for now and when Sooty returns to
Richard he has travel back to when he was a baby.
The whole gang search the hotel to find the wands to turn Richard
back. They rather find the wand than hear Richard crying or having
to change his nappy. Meanwhile Butch carries on with mischief and
setting up custard pies to splatter Sooty and Sweep and one pie also
gets him in the process.
Eventually they find the wands and magic Richard back - and then let
Butch get them with one of his pies.
I say it again; they really have learnt their lesson after the
boring serious stuff of Series 49. Sooty's Baby is another well-
written story carrying the old tradition of mayhem and balance
everything needed for a good Sooty story.
In its original airing of CITV hardy anyone know about this episode
or that Series 51 has started and likely miss this episode believing
it to be repeats of the Golden Jubilee year of Series 50. Full marks
cannot be given for Sooty's Baby for this reason as we know its
great but hardy a lot of people know and only know about this
episode by reading this review and I hope this is helpful

FLYING FUN
(first aired 07/08/03)
Rating: 9 out of 10
Sooty and Sweep gets interested in Richard's new hobby, plane
making. Wanting to play with the plane Richard has just built, they
destroy it leaving Richard very upset. But after this accident Sooty
gets inspired by how things are able to fly.
Slapstick is high with Sweep falling into a tub of glue and then
spilling it all over Richard. Then he puts a bet to the pair that if
you can build a model plane that fly's "I'll eat my hat". Matthew
Corbett often used this old line in Sooty & Co and possibly in
earlier episodes of The Sooty Show and its stands the test of time;
but only Matthew has `actually' eaten a hat on screen.
With the help of Miki, Sooty sets out to transform Sweep into a
lean, mean, flying machine. With ideas of flapping Sweeps arms
really quick to attaching feathers to him so he looks like a bird.
So the job of borrowing pillows (or stealing them from the hotel
rooms even when a guest is sleeping the pillows at the time) to help
with the project.
More slapstick with glue involves Richard getting his fingers stuck
to his face and later on pours paint all over him. Thankfully all
this over the top humour has a point (unlike 2001's All New Sooty)
and Slapstick in Sooty never seem healthier.
Meanwhile Sweep is flowed all over the hotel, knocks Soo into a
large cake and lands in the roof space. Sweep can't take anymore and
quits but Miki and Sooty won't let him and while up in the roof they
spot a plane building book.
The song `building a plane' tells how they build the plane that is
needed to win the bet Richard has place. This scene is shown in a
classic old-fashion style like the good old films.
Then the plane Sooty built it being pilot by Sweep. Some great
camera work and good work by the model creators make up this
fantastic scene where it ends up Richard gets wet by the water
cannon and later on as he promise he ate his hat.
