National Climate March in London - Sat 4th November

On Saturday 4th November, over 10,000 environmentalists will march through London, calling for urgent action on climate change. This is a great opportunity for veggies & vegans to highlight the devastating environmental impact the meat and dairy industries have on the planet, people and wildlife. We hope to run a coach to this event. We can only book the coach once we have enough names, so please get in touch as soon as possible if you want to go. (more details below)

There is absolutely no doubt that climate change is the most serious threat to the future of the planet(and all who inhabit it). The implications of doing nothing are portrayed on our tv screens every day, we can not stand by whilst billions of people round the world face the threat of flood, drought, starvation etc. We are far from safe in this country - we recently learnt that the Thames flood barrier was raised just 4 times during the 1990`s, but so far this year it has been raised a total of 48 times!!!

Join us at the march and rally in London

There will be a rally at the US Embassy from 12 noon. Speakers to include George Monbiot, Caroline Lucas MEP and Norman Baker MP. The rally will be followed by a march to Trafalgar Square. This will easily be the biggest ever demonstration demanding action on climate change, anywhere in the world!! The event is part of an International Day of Action on the Saturday before the Nairobi Climate Talks.

The organisers of this huge demo say, "Time is running out. Don`t let the Bush administration delay progress any longer. Demand that world leaders act now to prevent the catastrophic destabilisation of global climate".

We totally agree with this statement. But we think it is also essential for the general public to be made aware how we can all take steps to reduce our own individual impact on the planet. Of course, one of the most effective actions we can take is to adopt an eco-friendly veggie/vegan diet - now this is our chance to tell the world!!

Imagine hundreds of veggies/vegans marching with banners/placards that spell out this message loud and clear! Imagine a chant of `Save the Planet - Go Vegan` echoing down the street!! This is a great opportunity to educate other marchers and the general public that there`s no such thing as a meat eating environmentalist!! The Vegan Society and Viva! have both produced fantastic new leaflets that make this message crystal clear, we hope to distribute many hundreds. By pure co-incidence, this march comes at the end of The Vegan Society`s Green Vegan Week, so the timing could not be more appropriate!

With the help of Birmingham Veggies & Vegans (and other Midlands veggie/vegan groups), we will hope to fill the coach in Redditch and Birmingham, but if this is not possible, we may also pick up in Coventry. Wherever you live, if you want to go, please let us know. At this stage, we propose to pick up in Redditch at 8am and Birmingham at 8.45am. The estimated cost per coach seat is £12 waged and £6 un-waged. Payment for seats will be required in advance in order to safeguard against people not turning up on the day.
