Group sets up a healthy feast
Redditch Standard 30-9-05
A FREE food-tasting extravaganza is set to take place next
weekend(Saturday, October 8) as a Redditch-based food society attempts to
raise some important issues about healthy eating.
Redditch Vegetarians and Vegans, a group which supports healthy
lifestyles and promotes the benefits of vegetarian and vegan diets, is
hosting a food fair at St Stephen`s Church in the town centre.
Residents will be able to sample a variety of alternatives to meat
including vegetarian and vegan burgers, sausages and curries as well as
salads, crisps, pasta and rice. Home-made cakes, biscuits and
refreshments will also be available.
Visitors can pick up factsheets, nutritional information and recipes as
well as browse round stalls selling books, cards, cosmetics and
chocolates. A face-painter will also be on hand to keep the children
entertained.
Group member, Peter Wilson, said: "Our agenda is that tasty, nutritious
food should be available to everyone, including those on a low income,
and that it should be cruelty-free in its production."
Kevin White, also a member, said they wanted to dispel the myth that
vegetarian and vegan food was not very appetising.
"Many people believe that this type of food is not very tasty, and we
want to change that," he said.
"The event is a great way for anyone to try out vegetarian and vegan food
and see for themselves that there are delicious alternatives to meat."
The event takes place between 10.30am and 3pm.
