Hi all retinos,
First of all a large thank you to the Japan RP Society for a
successful Retina International conference!
I arrived home less than two days ago so I'm still a little bit jet
lagged, but my impression of the conference is that the researchers
are hopefull. In Lugano, Switzerland 4 years ago they knew the paths
where the solution to retinal degenerations could be, and they had at
that time started the bases research.
Today they have in some cases come to time to start clinical test,
I.E. test on a few humans to show that the technics are safe on
humans. They have already "proof of principal" for these solutions
where they are going to start clinical tests. Proof of principal
means that they have showed that the theories works on animals and
that they are safe on animals.
One of these proof of principal are on briard dogs wich have an dog-
type of Lebers Congenital Amourosis. These dogs are cured they can
now play with balls. One of the dogs is a nasty one that used to snap
in the air, now that dog can bite ;-)
The only sad thing about the conference were all of you who weren't
able to come, we missed you from Poland and Lithuania. Hopefully we
will be able to meet in Paris next year?
Simone and Markus I'm so sorry I weren't able to say goodbye to you,
but we meet soon again. And thank you for teaching me how to make
german drinks on coca-cola and beer, it was interesting :-)
See you!
