INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR MEETING AND SPECIALISED STUDIES FOR THE BLIND AND THE
VISUALLY IMPAIRED IN EUROPE
OBJECT
Study, research and meeting centre to welcome blind and visually impaired
students either for a whole school year or a shorter period. The period is
considered as a pivotal year between the end of secondary school and higher
education or the entry into professional life.
The centre has a European vocation as much in the context of the courses and
activities as in the objectives, organisation and management.
1. THE OBJECTIVES:
1.1. To offer to young blind and visually impaired Europeans and non-Europeans,
a meeting place and a specialised study centre for specific subject matter, the
use of technical aids and the finding of solutions to problems typically
encountered when entering into higher education or professional life.
1.2. To offer these young people a period of reflection and self-sufficiency to
decide on their future school, professional or social life. Meeting with
students of different backgrounds and origins, the professional help of
professors, psychologists, business people? and the request that they draw up a
personal project for their future, will broaden their horizon and help them to
step into the 21st century.
1.3. To be the source of international exchanges not only for the students but
also for the organisers and the partners of the project. Thus favouring
structured and convivial international collaboration.
1.4. To favour a spirit of commitment towards the common interests of the blind
and visually impaired in the new European community. To favour an active and
responsible attitude by demanding the elaboration of a personal project and
proactive teaching.
1.5. The creation of partnerships with public institutions,
charity-organisations and private enterprise of the different community members
favouring the exchange of specialised technical applications, special training?
2. THE STUDENTS AND THE COURSES:
2.1. It's a school or study centre that organises and gives courses.
2.2. There are also other activities: meetings, seminars between young people
and the actors in all the different fields likely to serve integration.
2.3. The accepted students participate in the organisation of a part of their
curriculum in as much as their individual project will tend to make them into
active responsible citizens.
3. MANAGEMENT:
3.1. The legal status of the centre is a non-profit association. Its name is
VIEWS, Visually Impaired's Educational World Support. It is seated in Liege,
Belgium. The founders are visually impaired's parents' association from Belgium,
France and England, and professionals. The association accepts other members
according to the statutes.
3.2. The management is accomplished a member of the administration council,
aided by a co-ordinator.
3.3. The statutes and the internal regulation rules are available upon request.
3.4. The European Union will be our principal partner for the final project
(September 2003). Before this term, the organisation of the office (January
2002) and the first exploratory session (July 2002) will be funded by regional
and private organisations.
