Dear all,
A couple of quick reminders:
1. This weekend's practice (Sat 2nd Dec) will include
a friendly with UCL Open. Please aim to get there a
little earlier so we can start our warmups and drills
at 1230 and move straight into scrimmage at 1330,
which is the time I have suggested to UCL.
2. If you haven't already, please RSVP to the Poll
that Pasta has put up on your attendance for WL2 on
10th December.
Cheers and beers,
Adam Keen

As far as I know, training is on this Saturday as
usual. 1230 arrival for 1pm start.
By way of a report, we had a good session last
Saturday with enough players for 6-on-6 with a sub.
We worked a lot on zone play, focussing initially on
the cup and holding the force in the cup. On offense,
we did a good job of making our dump throws more
predictable, but the day really belonged to the D
which forced Offense into some risky plays to break
the zone, which is good.
Other improved areas were communication on the pitch
and from the sidelines. The message that constant
chatter, especially when on D, is a Good Thing was
being picked up by everyone.
The weather this weekend is going to make another zone
session viable. However, I won't be running it so it
will be up to you all to set the agenda!
Cheers and beers,
Adam Keen

Hi
This is just a quick reminder to everyone that the party you've all
been waiting for is happening in a mere THREE DAYS TIME! Good news
eh?
Friday 17 November, 21 Moray Road, Finsbury Park, 9pm. Map attached.
And the theme is MONSTERS. Take that as you will..
See you all there!
Love from Kieran, Steph, Tom, Marysia, Ben, Chelsea, Vicky and Juan

To:
Good afternoon one and all.
Well, it certainly has been a very long time since we last had a party
- back in those heady days of early summer you might remember the
excitement of the casino, the lasers and the grotto...
And now it's cold and rainy.. but we can still have fun! And in fact
the miserable weather is all the more reason to come along to a nice
people-warmed house on
17th NOVEMBER 2006
for the latest instalment of RETOX. This time it's...
THE MONSTER PARTY!!
You won't be allowed in unless you terrify the person who opens the
door, so make sure you get your scariest monster outfits on, and look
forward to an evening of odd-looking green creatures, soul-shattering
screams, dubious looking cocktails, and the like.
Hopefully see you there on 17th November, at
21 MORAY ROAD, FINSBURY PARK, N4 3LD
Have a look at the attached flyer for a map.
Lots of love from
Kieran, Steph, Tom, Marysia, Ben, Chelsea and Juan
WL 1 Match Report
We had a full squad of 15 which was great as it meant
fresh legs throughout the day. It also allowed us to
play straight up man-D all day, which suited us fine.
The roster for the day (in no particular order) was
Luke, Chris G, Pasta, Mark B (with hangover), Kieran G
(with no sleep), Steve (looking surprisingly fit),
Canadian Andy and Ian Cooke from Fire, Irish Al and
Fergus, Paul G (who must hate the fact he had ot leave
before the final), Alejo, Sam, Capetown Matt and
myself. The scores below are approximates from memory.
Anyone is welcome to correct them if necessary.
Game 1: Rev 13 - Curve 2
We played very well together coming straight out of
the gates. Sharp cuts and throws and committed
defense. Curve scored 1 cheap point sometime in the
second half and 1 great point with a layout on the end
of a cross field hammer. It basically took that level
of risk for them to beat us.
Game 2: Rev 13 - Ow! 5
We got off to a good start again, with something like
4-0 up in about 10 minutes against a quick and young
Oxford team. They came back a little bit to get a
couple of points before the half, and then got some
momentum going late in the game that tested us. We
basically upped our D massively in this game, closing
out almost everything they tried. They scored all
their points on Hail Mary passes. Our offense looked a
little looser than it should have been, with some rash
decisions, but it was still enough for a comfortable
win.
Semifinal: Rev 13 - Brighton 8
Luke and I both admit to hating Brighton for being
unconventional. They pulled out the usual bag of daft
throws and poaching D to trade with us up until about
4-2, after which we started really burning up on O and
scoring 3 points to their 1. Once we noticed that a
good swing across the field and the occasional long
throw was all we needed to get around the semi-clam,
the outcome was never in doubt.
Final: UCL 11 - Rev 8
Lots of stories to tell about this one. Closely fought
all the way, no quarter given and no holds barred.
This was the kind of ultimate I love to play. It was
great to score against UCL but also great to see how
strong they have become. In the end, the fact they had
played together this season much more than we have
told in the end and we failed to make up a 4 point
deficit we gave up in the first half. I'll invite
everyone to add their own notes on the game in this
thread. I quite like the fact that I manage to close
out both Jack and Matt Ayre on D for about 6 points,
which is hard work, believe me. I also hold my hands
up for being useless at the front of stack. I must
never play there again.
On a more practial note, Rev needs to work on flow out
of a vertical stack. The horizontal stack also paid
dividends for us, suiting our make up of strong
throwers who can break the mark all the time, and fast
cutters who can eat up 40 yards in 5 seconds. I also
noticed that the sidelines were a major asset on D.
The more switched on the sidelines were, the quicker
we got our turnovers.
I hope that Rev rises to the challenge and trains hard
to get a win off UCL the next Winter League. I also
hope UCL takes the win and builds on it with greater
confidence and ambition.
For the records. We had enough Rev players today to get a practice going.
We did a lot of throwing in the wind (a total of 120 throws each) and we practice quite a bit of junk D with the help of the UCL people who stayed to play some more.
I am confident that tomorrow we have a chance to blast into the scene and pocket a good result.
We'll have more subs that we expected originally. so we expect everyone to run balls out from the 1st point.
See you all tomorrw!
It would be great if someone could print the schedule.

Dear all,
Just to give you an update on the Winter League squad:
Yes: Keen Pasta Mark B Ian Cooke (guest from Fire) Irish Al (guest from, well, Ireland) Sam Alejo Capetown Matt Canada Dave (previously called Yankee Dave by mistake) Chris G Luke Paul G Steve Fergus W
Maybe: Rory Josh (guest from Clapham)
That is 14 players! I am hugely encouraged by the response and hope we will have a great time out on Sunday. Those of you who haven't already, please go to the www.londonultimate. com website for schedule and directions. Pasta has already told you about most of what you need to know.
For aesthetic reasons, bring one white shirt and one black shirt, as plain as possible. Let's look good while we kick arse!
Finally, it there is a post-Winter League ribs and beer pigout organised to take place in Soho at Bodean's restuarant. It is a tenner a
head, so do join us for a tasty (and slightly pongy) celebration of Revolution's debut!
Finally, it looks like a very light practice on Saturday. Apologies from myself and various other people who cannot be there.

Yes, I too have had to have discussions with the missus. And for me, it is bound to get harder as Lucas gets older! :(
Can I just confirm that there IS a Saturday practice and it would be great if people could show up to get a little bit used to each other. 130pm as usual.
Unfortunately, I am in the same boat as Luke and have traded off the Saturday for being able to play on Sunday, so I will also only be there on Sunday.
On the bright side, it looks like we have at least 10 players, which ought to
bode well for the day! Those who haven't been to practice in a while, I do hope you are able to get your throws into shape on Saturday. And please do what you can to jump start your fitness if you haven't played ulty in a while.
I am now off to do a 5K run at the gym, aren't I being good!
Cheers and beers, AK

Dear Revolution,
Just to confirm that training is on this Saturday. Please come along
ready to start by 1pm with all your usual gear.
We are also entering the first Winter League next week and need RSVPs!
Cheers and beers,
Adam Keen
Sorry chaps, been off email all week as I've been ill with some kind of nasty virus.
Am hoping to be out on Saturday in a purely coaching fashion (you guys need some protection from Keen), but may not be able to make it depending on how I'm feeling.
Plan for saturday is as follows
Non-UCL players - arrive 12.30, throw around, warm up
1pm Throwing & fitness drills
1.30 pm - quick chat about stack & importance of stack foolowing by Sideline dump drill (L-stack)
2.15pm - go over for game against Bliss. Focus on playing out of stack, recycling the disc with the dump and generally playing safe.
Hopefull see you sat
Luke

Dear all,
I just want to confirm that we are practising at the usual pitches
this Saturday to start at 130pm, picking up after the UCL practices
finish.
We have also been invited to play against Bliss again this weekend. It
should start at around 230pm and finish at around 4pm.
That means we have 1 hour of drills before going straight into what
should be a very constructive match with some very good opposition. I
am hoping that Luke will be leading the practice again and he will set
the agenda for the day. If not, you are stuck with me! :)
The weather looks really wet and a little chilly so please dress
accordingly, and bring BLACK AND WHITE shirts please! No greys and 'is
this colour of blue dark enough?'. :)
If you have cones or other field markers it would be great if you
could bring them along.
Cheers and beers,
Adam Keen
Revolution training this weekend, 11am regents park. Revert to 1pm from week after to be directly after student practice.

guys,
is there going to be a Revolution training this Saturday?
because this week-end it is the beginner's tournamant in Hyde Park and i am telling all my more experienced players to join your training in Regent's Park. it would be more interesting for them.
also, if this happens, could it lead into the game against Bliss at two o'clock? that would be great. otherwise i will just cancel the game, it does not matter.
cool. let me
know.

It's agreed. 1st official Revolution practice will be at 1pm on 21 October.
I would ask that anyone not at student practice please try to get there by 12.30 for warm-up so we can actually start some drills at 1pm.
Each training session will focus on a key area. The drills and any game will be based around these areas. Examples will include dumps, force, 3-4 offence etc. Each practice will consist of 2 different drills and a game
Session 1, 21 Ocotber will focus on the following:
Overall focus: Disc retention - winter is not the time to make risky plays and passes as it's hard enough to catch midriff passes, let alone bullet head height knives!
Drill 1: Basic cutting drill from back of stack.
Drill 2: Simple dump
Game:
Modification to normal game. 1 point per successful throw. 10 per score. -5 per throwaway (dropped cataches and D's no effect). Aim is to mkae easy passes and retain disc.
See you all there (or at students next week)

There is also nothing wrong with actually coming to student training! You get to play more ultimate and the newbies will gain a lot with a few more experienced people playing.

its any time we want it to be. it is going to be at 1pm on a saturday, directly after the ucl practice. that way we can always guarentee numbers at training.
i'm not sure when to actually start them. we need people to step up to take training sessions too. i know that not everyone will be able to make all training sessions, so we need some volunteers.
i think we should start trainings on 21st october? that gives plenty of time to get properly organised and leaves plenty of time before winter league to train
hard. there is nothing to stop you all coming down at the end of student training and playing some pick up
easy
