Subject: 'triggers' that bring on fits? can we stop them?

This may appear to be very heavy reading but?? It has several points
to it, of which I would be pleased to discuss further with you.
Self consciousness, it has long been considered that this is innate
it would follow therefore that attitudes accompany our innate self
consciousness due to our automated behaviour to a situation. For
example, at maturity we look to the opposite gender! Generally
speaking this drive is both innate and an attitude based upon the
implementation of monogamous attitudes from parents, media and
society. Religion with its implications that "self' is our soul is
questionable based on our religious in doctoring and the society we
live in yet can also be used to create attitudes.
`What's this to do with epilepsy'?
In modernistic terms it is argued that self consciousness, attitudes
and our innate self is dualistic, that is to say they are one of the
same. It is as important though to accept that due to an attitude
(triggers for seizures) we all have behavioural responses, some good
some bad and these can lead us to have an emotional deficit. To fit
into our society we have to learn how to behave, alter our attitude!
In doing this it can take people out of there comfort zones leaving
them uncomfortable, nervous or even vulnerable and more prone to
fits.
Attitudes and self consciousness are innate/ media and society based
constraints that are imposed upon individuals as they grow and
develop from child hood through adolescence into adulthood where, the
links and chains of opinions are enforced upon the next generation.
This is why it is vital that we and our nearest and dearest
understand and give us a wide burth.
A prime example of this can be seen in the modem child of today,
there are few who are aware of the constraints of familiarity and or
respect to there elders. This "mind set" is a complete change from
thirty years ago clearly indicating that "attitudes" towards teaching
respect (to create an attitude) has changed. It is apparent that, in
this instance child rearing is not innate, it has to be taught but,
when a child is in danger it is a self conscious innate response to
protect it. So, it is that same attitude that we all need to adopt to
ease the pressures on both the epileptic and the family/friends.
I introduced this essay by referring to attitudes/ triggers and how
they accompany our innate self consciousness due to our automated
behaviour to a situation. Hence, the starting point for this topical
research is as old as researchable recorded history, from the mass
attitudinal hysteria towards the Jews before the Second World War to
the good will drive to save the planet. These are all attitudes which
when reaching a point of hysteria can affect self consciousness and
can become an inherent attribute for the innate self "US" AND OUR
SELF CONFIDANCE, (I wont go out just in case---).
The concept of Social psychology of self could be summed up by
Solomon Asch (1956) where his studies into "normal" (what is socially
and culturally acceptable) groups, there social influence and places
they are at will result in a form of conformity. This however is a
resulting opinion of a minority (US) not a majority and over looks
the individual. It is this attitude that affects self consciousness
and is the frustrating difficulty, helping people to help us help
ourselves?
As "We" the human race are from many differences a starting point for
this researchable history into attitudes and self consciousness is
through the eyes of religion- self-soul and the inherent parental/
cultural dis/approval of behaviour. Is society to be held accountable
for these behavioural attitudes or society for en doctoring the
young. Either way both are based on a common ground/need, that being
cohesion based upon a fear factor.
Contrary to this social influence on behaviour and to re enforce the
point raised earlier With regards to the frustrating difficulty in
researching social psychology of self we have a strange species
called the individual/non conformist. (An example of such was
reviewed by us he he)
In a drive to research self and attitude "Unfolding discourse
analysis" in post modernism has been researched by (McGuire, 1985, p.
239) raising the concept that "attitudes are locating objects of
thought on dimensions of judgement and placing it in a hierarchy
(phenomenological narratives). Equally Potter and Wetherell in there
research are more interested in how people talk (cognitive
processes). This turn to language research though is seen as a model
of contained, rational and stable individual processes. For now, in
short phenomenological narratives are pictoral descriptions, used as
a method to converse with `society', this method is used
unconsciously due to hemispheric damage (a side of the brain). For
epileptics who aquired or were born with the disadvantage the
cognitive processes are more intact. This is partially why `we' are
al different, that and the fact that the pills we have to take change
our personality.

processes, which themselves can processes, which themselves can be
analysed in terms of discourse variables and, ultimately, predicted
and manipulated.
This "modem research" into dualism gives a more adequate insight into
cause and effect based on both social and cultural differences ie the
deprived may have an alternative insight to morality than the rich.
In research terms LaPiere encapsulates the whole concept by noting
that attitude research needs to focus on an individual's behaviour.
The study of people in there environment will reveal social attitudes
in response to social situations thus revealing the true grasp of the
media, peer pressure and innate endoctorings, "I AM!"
To study two different socio cultural groups and say there
behavioural attitudes and self consciousness are the same for mankind
would be far from accurate. It is in fact inaccurate due to the
individuals self being a creation of the socio cultural foundations
it has lived with. The embodiment of our self and attitudes is a
result of our culture and breeding, how we implement this "knowledge"
into the next generation will be the resulting factor as to wether or
not society prospers. As Koop said, "When people learn to care, when
they accept the fact that there may be risks to caring and when they
agree to take those risks in order to preserver there place in the
community," community may be prosperous!.

lets talk ah??

I have been trying to study up on natural cures and healthy diets and

I notice the number of new Epilepsy cases have been on a steady rise.
I know that alot of that is from the injuries of war ... but the rest

A lady approaches her priest and tells him "Father, I have a problem.
I have two female talking parrots, but they only know how to say one
thing."

"What do they say?" the priest inquired.

"They only know how to say, 'Hi, we're prostitutes. Want to have some
fun?'"

"That's terrible!" the priest exclaimed, "but I have a solution to
your problem. Bring your two female parrots over to my house and I
will put them with my two male talking parrots whom I taught to pray
and read the bible. My parrots will teach your parrots to stop saying
that terrible phrase and your female parrots will learn the joys of
praise and worship."

"Thank you!" the woman responded.

The next day the woman brings her female parrots to the priest's
house. His two male parrots are holding the rosary beads and praying
in their cage. The lady puts her two female parrots in with the male
parrots and the female parrots say "Hi we're prostitutes, want to
have some fun?"

One male parrot looks over at the other male parrot and
exclaims, "Put the beads away, brother. Our prayers have been
answered!"

anyone want to be talking about anything in particular?

An old couple go to the doctor. The old man goes first to have his
physical. When the doctor is done with him, he sends the old man back
into the waiting room and calls the old woman in.

The doctor tells her, "Before we proceed with the examination, I
would like to talk to you about your husband first."

The old woman says, "Oh, no, it's his heart. I told him to lay off
the eggs."

The doctor says, "Well, I asked your husband how he is feeling and he
told me he felt great. He said that when he got up to go to the
bathroom, he opened the door and God turned the light on for him.
When he was done, he would shut the door and God would turn the light
out for him."

The old woman responded, "Damn it, he's peeing in the fridge again!"

well being tired and having our brains fried by meds doesnt help at
all ah, i can only speak from the knowledge i gained doing psychology
degree and experiance, what i found was (and really answers a question
sandy asked 'how did you remeber it' regarding degree studies) by
learning that we have (like a pc) many different areas of memory we
have to find one that we can use and rely on. thats half the battle.
for me its visual memory and making film clips out of what i have to
remeber
The other side to the success is to push ourselfs, give us tests,
simple as they may be. for me i would write a list of nonsence, like a
shopping list and at the end of the day replay my film clip to see if
it and the written list are the same. sounds silly i know but what i
was doing was making my brain work. (oh the headackes hehe). its
phenomenological narratives, i wrote of it at the beginning of the
group.

whats your take on it all

Well, my memory is like lightning; one bright flash, and zap, it's gone!  Usually I write things down to help me remember them.  Tonight, I remembered to vote when my wife forgot, but I guess that is more of a long term.  My wife is usually my memory.  I am on so many medications that my thought process gets fried in the process.  Not much to go on, but it's late, and I'm tired.

we all have working memory (here and now) then its gone into short
term and then long tern memory. however depending on the info it can
be diverted or lost. bit like a pc, you would send a photo to photos
but it may get sent to word then its lost (not paying attention to
what somone says, or treting the information as stupid). thats the
simple annalogy. we all have many forms of memory, one of the most
reliant is visual, we can all imagine our favourite camp site or hotel
and see it vividly ah. That is a starting point for us to find what
type of memory we can use to be reliant.
a rooster (hen in england hehe) went shopping in the snow, it was
walking on to the shops, smoking a fag, put a coat on, im sure you can
see that rooster right now. well that short film clip was a shopping
list i once had, i relayed the film clip when i went into the shop and
bought a chicken, cream (that was the snow) ,fags and knitting wool
(that was the coat). to that i added a dialog to the film,to double up
on the memory.

theres a starter what say you

LOL !!!! Oh, my God!!!

Hi Stephen, yes lets talk about improving memory. What are some ways
to do it?

Some days mine is better than other days. Or actually there seems to
be a difference even during a one day period, like before or after I
sz or just start feeling really tired. Then it feels like my brain
is also really tired and refuses to work. Also, I keep getting these
horrible feelings in my head ... like little electric zaps and
tingles, that seem to make me really sick at my stomach. And no
energy at all!

I got really tired out Friday over the 5 hour doctors trip and can
not seem to shake it. Saturday I had a really strange ... seizure ...
I guess, not really sure what that was. It reminded me of Parkinsons
or something like that ... Afterwards, with the exhaustion and sick
stomach, it sure felt like a fit.

Here is a joke ...

Who's the Strongest

A strong young man at the construction site was bragging that he
could outdo anyone in a feat of strength. "I am the strongest, most
powerful man here," he boasted. He made a special case of making fun
of John, one of the older workmen.

After several minutes, John had enough. "Why don't you put your money
where your mouth is?" he said. "I will bet a week's wages that I can
haul something in a wheelbarrow over to that outbuilding that you
won't be able to wheel back."

"You're on old man," the braggart replied. "It's a bet! Let's see
what you got."

John reached out and grabbed the wheelbarrow by the handles. Then,
nodding to the young man, he said "All right. Get in."

Blessings, Sandra

alot of us came to relise that because of our epilepsy we have limited
memories so we have, over time, resorted to stay in our 'comfert zone'
so that when we are asked something we can use what we know as a
foundation for an answer. That way we think we wont appear 'daft'. SO
WHY SHOULD WE CARE WHAT PEOPLE THINK OF US we are what we are, there is
an alternative though if we build our confidance up and push ourselves
using other forms of memory (we all have many) we will find a
technique that will enable us to improve our memories.

LETS TALK ABOUT AH UM ER DONT REMEMBER hehe
either that or ill expose you all to some very bad english jokes lol

 COSTCO DRUGS

This is true: Check it out on truth or fiction below:

This is worth reading. Be sure to read to the end. You will be amazed.

Let's hear it for Costco!! (This is just mind-boggling!) Make sure you read all the way past the list of the drugs The woman that signed below is a Budget Analyst out of federal

Did you ever wonder how much it costs a drug company for the active ingredient in prescription medications? Some people think it must cost a lot, since many drugs sell for more than $2.00 per tablet. We did a search of
offshore chemical synthesizers that supply the active ingredients found in drugs approved by the FDA. As we have revealed in past issues of
Life Extension, a significant percentage of drugs sold in theUnited States contain active ingredients made in other countries. In our
independent investigation of how much profit drug companies really make, we obtained the actual price of active ingredients used in some
of the most popular drugs sold in America

Since the cost of prescription drugs is so outrageous, I thought everyone should know about this. Please read the following and pass it on.
It pays to shop around. This helps to solve the mystery as to why they can afford to put a Walgreen's on every corner. On Monday night,
Steve Wilson, an investigative reporter for Channel 7 News inDetroit, did a story on generic drug price gouging by pharmacies. He found in his investigation, that some of these generic drugs were marked up as much as 3,000% or more. Yes, that's not a typo.....three thousand percent! So often, we blame the drug companies for the high cost of drugs, and usually rightfully so. But in this case, the fault clearly lies with the pharmacies themselves. For example, if you had to buy a prescription
drug, and bought the name brand, you might pay $100 for 100 pills.

The pharmacist might tell you that if you get the generic equivalent, they would only cost $80, making you think you are "saving" $20. What
the pharmacist is not telling you is that those 100 generic pills may have only cost him $10!

At the end of the report, one of the anchors asked Mr. Wilson whether, or not there were any pharmacies that did not adhere to this practice, and he said that Costco consistently charged little over their cost for the generic drugs.

I went to the Costco site, where you can look up any drug, and get its online price. It says that the in-store prices are consistent with the
online prices. I was appalled. Just to give you one example from my own experience, I had to use the drug, Compazine, which helps prevent nausea in chemo patients.

I used the generic equivalent, which cost $54.99 for 60 pills at CVS. I checked the price at Costco, and I could have bought 100 pills for $19.89. For 145 of my pain pills, I paid
$72.57. I could have got 150 at Costco for $28.08.

I would like to mention, that although Costco is a "membership" type store, you do NOT have to be a member to buy prescriptions there,
as it is a federally regulated substance. You just tell them at the door that you wish to use the pharmacy, and they will let you in. (this is
true)

I went there this past Thursday and asked them. I am asking each of you to please help me by copying this letter, and passing it into your own e-mail, and send it to everyone you know with an e-mail address.

The Mark-up by Some Local Pharmacies on Generic Drugs is Steep-Truth!

[See the attached file] Summary of the eRumor
A television reporter in Detroit investigated the costs of generic drugs.  He accused some pharmacies of price-gouging, with mark ups of as much at 3,000 percent.  Generic drugs cost less than name brands of the same medications, but the reporter says the lower price may still represent a high mark-up.  He also found that Costco prices were consistently more reasonable
[See the attached file] The Truth
There seems to have been a rash of TV reports on this subject in various cities.

The report in Detroit was in July, 2002 by Steve Wilson of channel 7, the ABC affiliate.
He went from store to store to check on prices of a drug that cost the pharmacy $2.
Prices ranged up to $100.
He says the blood pressure medication Vasotec can cost about $76 per month.
The generic version often sells for $60.
But he says it costs the pharmacy less than $6.
One pharmacist admitted that the mark-up was "unconscionable."
Wilson reports that the widly-used drug Prozac sells for about $100 per month in Detroit.
The generic version sells for only $10 or so less, but costs the pharmacy only $2.16 or less.
He found that the prices at Costco were consistently cheaper.

In Florida, the same investigation was conducted by WFTV channel 9's reporter Barbara West in October, 2002.
She too found high mark-ups on generic drugs.
Prozac was selling for 3,000 to 5,000 percent profit.
She compared that with if a grocer who bought an orange for 20-cents would sell it at the same mark-up, the orange would cost $10.
She quotes a spokesperson for Walgreens as saying that the pharmacies don't make much profit on the brand name drugs and need to charge higher profit on the generics, which they can do while still giving the consumer a better deal than the brand name price.
She also found that Costco consistently had the best prices with mark-ups between 86 and 423 percent, not 3,000 to 5,000.

Philadelphia's KYW-TV did the same story in November, 2002.
KYW's consumer specialist Paul Moriarty says Rite Aid, Walgreens, Eckerd, and CVS all declined to be interviewed about high mark-ups on generic drugs.
He too found that Enalapril, the generic version of Vasotec, selling for $60 at Walgreens and $68 at Eckerd Drugs, even though it costs them about $5, a 1,300 percent mark up.
He, too, found Costco to be the cheapest with a cost for Enalapril, for example, of $12.97.
He also found lower prices at Wal-Mart and K-Mart, but not as low as Costco.

A 3/11/03 article by Wall Street Journal reporter Francesco Fiondella reflected some of the same findings.
That article found prices for generic Prozac ranged from $2 per pill at various pharmacies around New York to 15 cents at, once again, Costco.

A real example of the eRumor as it has appeared on the Internet:

On Monday night (July 22), Steve Wilson, an investigative reporter for
channel 7 News in Detroit, did a story on generic drug price gouging by
pharmacies. He found in his investigation, that some of these generic drugs
were marked up as much as 3,000% or more. Yes, that's not a typo..... three
thousand percent! Mr. Wilson did a thorough research, and checked out all
the major drugstore chains, discount chains, independent pharmacies, and
even checked on some Canadian pharmacies.

So often, we blame the drug companies for the high cost of drugs, and
usually rightfully so. But in this case, the fault clearly lies with the
pharmacies themselves. For example, if you had to buy a prescription drug,
and bought the name brand, you might pay $100 for 100 pills. The pharmacist
might tell you that if you get the generic equivalent, they would only cost
$80, making you think you are "saving" $20. What the pharmacist is not
telling you is that those 100 generic pills may have only cost him $10!

At the end of the report, one of the anchors asked Mr. Wilson whether or not
there were any pharmacies that did not adhere to this practice, and he said
that Costco consistently charged little over their cost for the generic
drugs. They gave the link to Costco, which I will include here, so that you
can go and check prices for yourself.

So I was flying British Airways, London to Logan...and kept a steady flow of Black Bush (Co Antrim) going.

By the time we landed at Boston's Logan..heck, I was seeing doubles and feeling no pain.

As I de-planed and was greeted by the airline hostess, I says to her.."you know what's great about seeing doubles?".'Why what's that sir', she replies.

"One of you two MUST be single"!

Ahhh..I gotta scram.

Going over to East Boston for a visit at my aunt's (happy happy joy joy).

See Ya's..Mates and Mateees!

EXERCISE FOR PEOPLE OVER 50 (or who feel like it)

Begin by standing on a comfortable surface, where you have plenty of room at each side.

With a 5-lb potato sack in each hand, extend your arms straight out from your sides and hold them there as long as you can.

Try to reach a full minute, and then relax. Each day you'll find that you can hold this position for just a bit longer.

After a couple of weeks, move up to 10-lb potato sacks. Then try 50-lb potato sacks and then eventually try to get to where you can lift a 100-lb potato sack in each hand and hold your arms straight for more than a full minute. (I'm at this level.)

After you feel confident at that level, put a potato in each sack.

Stephen...

I've got to tell ya that Yahoo here has changed the format..so for instance, I minimize a screen and then see a chat has popped up; the actual letter is only about 1/2 the screen size...just stupid crap like that.

At my age, and level of computer savy, it takes a while to pick up on.

I was fixin' to sign out when a message popped up that by signing out I'd loose my IM and any messages.

I didn't even know there were IM messages.

So bare with me; I don't mean to ignore any IM's.

I can be a computer DOPE, eh?

CHEERFULLY,

Tommy B

Last time I was in the UK, we had to put off my audience with Her Majesty.

All they would tell me was that The Queen  was...on the throne.

Ugly???

Dude, the chiques dig it!

Eh...did you ever check out that Notorious H.I.T on YouTube?

I found another one with Der Fuhrer doing Tom Jones (LOL)!
