Press release

The first Dutch Endurance Championships 2002
in Ermelo

The elite of the Dutch endurance riders will compete in the first Dutch
endurance championships on July 6, 2002. This event will take place in
Ermelo, The Netherlands. The KNHS-board recently decided to select the
international endurance competition "the Fasna Trail CEI***" for the Dutch
Championships. The best Dutch competitor at the most distinguished distance,
the 160 kilometres, will become the first National endurance champion 2002.

The Fasna Trail in Ermelo is an open international endurance competition.
Qualified riders from The Netherlands and abroad can compete at the three
distances of 100, 125 and 160 kilometres. The KNHS-centre in Ermelo, the
centre of the Royal Dutch Equestrian Sports Federation, will be the focal
point for the endurance sport on this day. In the adjacent Veluwe-forests,
the riders will compete at their various distances.

Remarkable about this particular competition is the attractiveness for the
competitors, as well as for the crowds who come to watch. The competitors of
the longest distance will have to stop at a vetgate on the centre four
times; this vetgate is the obligatory veterinarian check up and resting
period. The fifth vetgate is 11 kilometres before the finish. The last
kilometres are on a grass track before the main-stands overlooking the
finish. Spectators can follow the entire race, including the in-between
rankings. The competition area has a straw village with shopping stands and
demonstrations with several horses will be given.

At 6 am. the riders competing at 160 kilometres will start. Depending on the
weather, they will take at least 12 hours to finish. The last rider will
have to finish before midnight to pass the minimum speed limit.

The other competitors, of the 100 and 125 kilometres, finish halfway in the
afternoon. The in-between rankings are shown live at www.fasnatrail.nl
during this day.
