Faculty of Education Seminar Series
Meeting the needs of the most able in science (**)
Easter Term Seminar: Saturday 10th May
The role of questions in challenging science learners
Prof. Mike Watts, University of Surrey Roehampton
The meeting starts at 11.00, in the Science Block, Faculty Homerton Site (***)
Registration (informal - please sign in) from 10.30. Tea and coffee
have been ordered for 10.30.
Mike Watts (*) will give his presentation before lunch. He will talk about
research looking at how pupils/students can be encouraged to generate
questions as part of inquiry-based learning approaches. This work looks at
raising learners' skill levels in critical questioning (and so in critical
thinking). He will discuss research data from learners at KS2, KS3 and
undergraduate levels.
Lunch (c.12.30) may be bought in the buttery if required. You are welcome
to bring a packed lunch to eat in the College grounds.
After lunch there will be opportunities for considering how the ideas
in Mike's presentation may be useful for colleagues exploring how to
challenge pupils in their classes. There will also be time for
colleagues who have to report back on their work in schools using
ideas from the previous seminar.
