Although I have been collecting models of Scottish buses for many years
I am now about to embark on painting some models into Scottish Bus
group colours. I amt at present trying to get the best match for
Eastern Scottish. I note that Mark Budd recommends Halford Ford Laurel
Green and Panam Beige. Has anyone else got any recommendations. Also
any suggestions as to where I can get transfers for company addresses,
fuel oil, emergency exit etc. Thanks
To anyone interested.
I am selling a complete metal casting kit on ebay at the moment. It's
excellent for model/jewellery making or other fine craft work. I used
to use it to make model bus kits.
My sellers ID on ebay is buses.cakes or you can find the auction by
searching for 'Casting machine'.
The auction closes tomorrow (Wed 18th April) at 2100. At the time of
writing the highest bid was £102, the euivalent set up new costs closer
to £1500.
Regards.
James

Like many other enthusiasts, I cannot understand why one of the two major "British" producers has not modelled the ubiquitous LD, which of course was to be found throughout a good proportion of Scotland with various SBG fleets, but not with Northern or Highland, from memory.
Also, is the book "Scotland's wee buses" by Doug Harrison still available? - I have lent mine to somebody who has now lost it! Please advise.

Well, that's good new Harry. My recollection is that orange is correct for the roof-lights on toilet-fitted coaches, but not otherwise, but I don't have any SMT/Eastern Scottish references to hand right now.
EFE's model of a Y type for the new Covent Garden Transport Museum
exhibition will be SOL's YH429A (YSC429K). I have just seen the pre
production effort - it looks good - but they have used their standard
seat insert with 49 red seats, and the three opening roof vents had a
dull organge perspex rather than the clear they have produced. I have
drawn this to the attention of EFE - but we will just have to wait and
see what actually happens. They had colour photos to work from. The
destination is 3DW LONDON.
Also the Renown BB963 should be out fairly soon - potential
destinations they are looking at are
041 HADDINGTON
037 EAST FORTUNE
043 PENCAITLAND
043 GLENKINCHIE
It will be in light green livery with Scottish fleetnames. Again they
have colour photos to work from.
Harry
Now i am impressed, where can i buy some of these diecasts, are they all
off the shelve or have they been repainted, to a very high standard i
must say if they are.
cheers,
stewart
Sorry I have been neglecting the group a bit. Since I have started
back on the buses, I have had no time to myself. It is just because I
am back on the spare sheet and have been doing a lot of long shifts. I
will soon be inviting a few of my fellow bus drivers to join the group
(the ones I know that collect model buses).
Speak to you all soon.
Walter Burt
Hi everyone,
Just letting you all know that I am still here. I have rejoined
Stagecoach Fife buses, and have been unable to keep on top of my
model alterations.
I did finish the Fife Scottish Y type, large logo bus, but was let
down by my attempts at the lining. (Mark Budd, can you give me some
tips on this, Please....?)
The 'Scottish' Bristol RE Y type coach is practically finished as
well. I will try and post my finished photos soon.
I have been busy elsewhere as well. I have been trying to get an ex
Fife Scottish B55 Ailsa back to Fife from Cardiffbus, but seem to be
getting nowhere, slowly.
As it turns out, I know a manager at Strathtay, so hopefully I will
be going in this direction for preservation prospects. More can be
heard about this on my other site:-
http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/w_alexander_and_sons_ltd/
How is everyone else's model collecting/making/code 3's going ?
Hope to hear from you all soon.
I will let you all know how I get on with my preserving prospects.
Walter.
Hi all.
Could I request anyone having photos or information regarding the M
TYPE London service coaches to contact me either on or off group.
I already have a large archive of info and photos but as always it is
far from complete.
It is possible that a model will be produced within 2-3 years and we
need all the photo and other info possible.
Also it is nice to have driver stories "AND LEGENDS" to accompany the
factual info for the future.
If any photos or info is ever used for any purpose it will be credited
accordingly.
Please also feel free to look at the Yahoo Site Alexanders M type Buses
THANKS IN ADVANCE
Malc.

Next weekend is the Aberdeen model railway bash at the AECC. Be there.
It's always good.
Come and say hi to me and my slightly dysfunctional friends at the
Aberdeen Transport Society stall.

We might look a bit funny, but we actually like the same things as you.
We'll be displaying, buying and selling (amongst other things) model
buses.
See ya.

Just back to the land of the living and haven't got time to go back
over previous posts, but it seems to me that the Y-type bus is an
absolute no-brainer (gimme Bluebird, gimme Strathtay, gimme almost
anything). M-type maybe, RV Volvo Citybus, definitely.
But I'm English, so what do I know?
Hi everyone,
Malcolm is right. Get yourselves to:-
http://www.britishmodelbuses.com/ and click on 'News'. There is a
short description of what is asked for, just take it from there. I
voted for an M type coach, a Y type bus and an RV Volvo Citybus. I am
sure you all have your own ideas of what you would like to see in
model form - just try and make it a Scottish model if you can.
Drop me a line and tell me what you voted for.
Good luck.
Walter Burt.

Hi All.
There is an opertunity from one of the major manufacturers to nominate
models we would like to see in production it is being offered thru the
BRITISH MODEL BUSES SITE and I would urge you all to vote for the
ALEXANDERS M TYPE as if we dont shout now we miss all chance of having
this iconic Scottish coach modeled.
You can vote for any other prototype you like as well.

EFE will be using their existing Y Type casting and therefore an early
Reliance is not suitable. Will probably be a coach Y type Seddon
instead, or possibly a Leopard.
Just to let you know that EFE are hoping to produce an SOL Y type
London coach in light green livery 'as new' - so it will have to be
B911-6 or possibly B50-60 if a two day coach is intended. Have no
idea if current Y Type casting is to be used, but if so it will have
to be altered. I am advising EFE on the detail. Does anybody know :
- what the exact legal lettering was - I know from photographic
evidence it was on 2 lines only, the first reading 'Scottish
Omnibuses Ltd., and the second could be New Street, Edinburgh, or
New Street, Edinburgh 8 (the post code EH8 8DW had not been
introduced)
- any info on unladen weights?
- if a 1964 Reliance from B50-60, which had a scripted 'Scottish
Omnibuses' in the waistband flash, was this scripted version also
carried on the boot? I suspect the answer is yes.
- Original Y types sometimes had the seating capcity 'To seat x
passengers' on the rear boot, but I believe this did NOT extend to
the coaches. Can this be confmed by anyboddy please?
