Hello all--
It's been ages and day since I've heard from any of my meddie
cronies in Glasgow, so I'm just checking in to shout hello from
across the Irish Sea! That's right, for those of you who've been
keeping track, I've MADE IT (actually, quite some time ago, as I've
been here since Oct., really). In any case, I have been busying
myself creating a club for (gulp!) modernist (she says, limply,
avoiding the public stoning of a post-modernist nearby), and
remembered all of my fair knights and strong maidens of yore. Hope
you've all been keeping well. I'm headed stateside for the summer,
but the email addy is still the same should anyone care to reach me
(sniff... no one ever does). Well, now, I must off to read about
some Irish authors from the twentieth century. Adieu drop in to see
me at Cork, lest any of you see fit to travel yonder this wicked way.

Kristen

Hey ho!

Chris is right, I haven't updated
the calendar on this site :-( People seem to have
been put off by having to log in an' all from actually
reading it. As I now have access to the official GCMRS
website, I shall be putting up a calendar on
there.

Only problem is that having nearly finished updating
the said site, I've had trouble uploading it which
our computing dept hasn't sorted out yet :-((( So a
strictly provisional and unofficial calendar is presently
at www.geocities.com/gcmrswebpage
(click on
'forthcoming events'). I'm updating this as I find out about
events. When I have the new site up, I'll put in a link
from the old page, so you won't get caught out by me
switching to the official site.

Either way, send me
news of your seminars! (How this will fit in with
non-Glasgow seminars I haven't yet hammered out, but 'm
hoping to get Edinburgh, St-and ones etc. up in due
course).

alaric

I know that Alaric mentioned he had updated the calender for this term, but
there doesn't seem to be anything on it yet. Perhaps there is a problem with
the site?
Chris Bowles

Members will be interested to know of two
upcoming conferences in St Andrews on medieval topics. The
first is on 24 February, on the topic 'The Papar in the
North Atlantic', and explores the evidence of Gaelic
ecclesiastical activity in the early medieval period. The second
is on 24 March, on the topic 'Political Legitimation
in the Middle Ages'. I have only just learned of
this conference, and as of yet have no other details
on it. Both conferences are posted in the SMS
