The campaign to end licensing of lap dancing clubs as cafes needs your
help!
The Government recently announced that it will give local authorities
greater powers to regulate lap dancing clubs
(http://www.labour.org.uk/jacqui_smith_speech,2008-09-21).
However the law is a long from way from being passed. Help us ensure
that:
a) The proposed law is appropriate to the urgent problem of wholly
inadequate licensing.
b) Legislation passes successfully through parliament, sooner rather
than later.
Doing so is crucial to challenge further normalising of lap dancing
clubs – which since being placed in the same licensing category as
cafes and restaurants have doubled in number across the UK. This has
both led to increased financial and sexual exploitation across the
industry and contributed to a sex object culture that underpins gender
based discrimination and violence.
Object and Fawcett Society have teamed up to organise the following
events.
TUESDAY 14TH OCTOBER – LOBBY YOUR MP TRAINING
6.30pm – 8.30pm, Parliament. The session will include tips on how to
lobby your MP in person during constituency surgeries, a lobbying pack
and the chance to practice with MPs attending the session. Email
sandrine@... to register your place.
FRIDAY 17TH & SATURDAY 18TH OCTOBER – LOBBY YOUR MP WEEKEND
Most MPs hold constituency surgeries on Fridays and Saturdays. Book an
appointment and lobby your MP to proactively take up this important
issue.
TUESDAY 4TH NOVEMBER – PUBLIC RALLY
6.30pm – 8.30pm, Parliament. This will feature cross-party MPs and a
wide range of speakers to outline the campaign so far and why urgent
action is needed on the issue of lap dancing clubs. More details to
