Hi there
I just wanted to say congratulations on your victory re Playboy
products
being sold to children under the age of 16. I applaud you tenacity
and support
your campaign wholeheartedly.
I have 2 small children 1 boy, 1 girl (the girl is only 3) and am
already
faced with a vey worrying trend in merchandising aimed at young
girls. T
shirts with slogans on the front such as Minx, sex kitten and queen
bitch!
A further concern I have is the growing trend towards pushing make
up and
other cosmetics to young girls; there are manufactures of brand of
trainers
at the moment giving away a make up mobile phone with every pair of
shoes.
i really don,t want my daughter to grow up thinking that she is less
than
somebody if she doesn't have her make up or mobile.
Barbie......let's just not go there!
My son (5) has also begun to strongly differentiaite between 'boys'
and 'girls'
toys. This is certainly not through our teaching, or as far as we
know, from
any of our friends or family. Merchandising aimed at boys is as
equally unballanced.
I am also proud to call myself a feminist in these infuriating times
of 'post
feminism', although i am relieved to see that many burried issues
are resurfacing,
thanks to people like you.
Keep up the good work
Yours thankfully and with the kindest regards
