Friday the 10th July was the Autism Conference at the Shirehall Shrewsbury. Soph
and I attended, as did Sara, who runs the Adult group Autonomy. I had an
information table and Sara and Autonomy had group information available and
members of Autonomy displayed their works of photography and poetry. It was
lovely to see some familiar faces including old members of Shropshire Autistic
Supporters, who were there to gain information which will support their children
as they grow toward adulthood. We at Shropshire Autistic Supporters would like
to thank Autism West Midlands, especially Kirsty, Jayne and Helen, for all their
hard work. I believe that another Autism Conference is planned for November,
watch this site for an update as regards the details of that. Best wishes,
Linda.

I've just campaigned with The National Autistic Society to ask my MP to support
the Autism Bill, which aims to challenge the exclusion from services that many
people with autism face.
They need 100 MPs to go to the debate on the Bill on Friday 27 February.  MPs
don't usually meet on a Friday so they need as many people as possible to email
their MP and ask them to vote for the Bill.  So far, 59 MPs have committed to
attending so your email really will make a difference!   Please click on the

Hi Julia and every-one else,
I have been checking this site for a couple of months but not got round to joining.  I have a 6 year old son who was diagnosed with Autism in January.  After a difficult year in mainstream school, he transferred to Haughton in September and seems to be doing much better.

I thought I would post some useful information.  It is hard to find places to take autistic children, and I've had some bad experiences, but the following ones are really good:

http://www.mickeymillers.com/  Craven Arms.  A friendly play barn which is big enough for you to go round with your child and keep him out of trouble!  They have a member of staff at the top of the big slide to make sure it is used safely, which is great because my son doesn't understand you have to go round by the steps and just climbs back up the slide.  My son particularly loves the poles with discs at the bottom that spin round.  There are outside toys and a maze in summer.  Lots of parking.

North Staffs http://www.specialadventureplayground.co.uk/ in Newcastle under Lyme.  Small soft play area and nice outside area with swings, trikes etc for all sorts of special needs.  The staff and volunteers and very kind, and other parents (family day Saturday afternoon) friendly and chatty.  Good parking, but might run out if very busy.

http://www.snapcannock.co.uk/ Special Needs Adventure Playground, Cannock.  I've not tried this one yet, but am told it is very good.

Has any-one else got some good suggestions?

Hi Jayne

No we have not come to an end. I have been a bit busy lately myself. There is another swimming session at the end of May on the 31st July. We also have a train outing organised for Sunday the 1st June at welshpool railway if you would like to bring your family along. The time is 11am to meet at the railway for a 11.15 set off from there.
