Ban Hunting: Final Call.   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #136 of 603 |
In 1976 a man named William Sweet attempted to prevent a man from endulging in
bloodsports and was shot dead. In 1991 hunt sabateur Mike Hill was run over and
killed as he attempted to prevent a hunt moving off. In 1993 15-year-old Tom
Worby was run over and killed as he protested against a hunt in Cambridgeshire.
No one has been charged in connection with these murders. In 2000, hunt sab
Steve Christmas was driven at while he protested against cub hunting in Surrey.
He was left with a crushed pelvis, broken ribs and serious abdominal injuries.
Consequently he had to have part of his bowel removed, a plate placed in his
pelvis, repairs to multiple stomach hernias, and suffers from a double groin
hernia that is inoperable due to previous operations.

Now, in 2004, he finally received £18,500 compensation. The man who drove at
him at no insurance or license when he carried out the attack, but it was not
until 2002 that he was charged with this and the case of GBH with intent was
dropped.

While all these men gave their health and thier lives around six million wild
animals died and countless pets, hounds and horses perished at the expense of
hunting. The hunt fraternity continued to shout their often biggotted and often
right wing views.

Int he 28 years after the first death, sucessesive governments have labelled
animal rights activists extremists and introduced a stream of legislation to
curb their actions. Yet still it remains only a rumour that hunting will be
banned.

For the sake of William, Tom & Mike, for the sake of Steve and all the other
campaigners who have been hospitalised or injured by hunts, for the sake of the
communties and families terrorised by hunting, for the sake of the 200,000
animals that have died and will continue to die each year, THIS MUST BE THE
FINAL SEASON!

Ignore the media hype that hunting will be banned. It may be, but we've been
here before. Until Her Majesty the Grand Huntress signs that bill, this fight
must go on. Shropshire is no exception. Please:

KEEP HOPE ALIVE: Write to the paper, your MP and anyone else
you can think of. Keep the issue going and remind the public that
hunting continues to be legal
and that it must be banned

MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD: Attend the gathering against hunting on Boxing Day in
Newport.

CONFRONT THE ISSUE The hunt lobby are gearing up for a campaign. We
must be prepared to counter it. Wherever you hear the word 'hunt'
we must always reply with 'ban'

TAKE ACTION: Sab, Monitor, Demonstrate,
Fundraise...whatever is your (legal) thing. This is our last chance.

SPREAD THE WORD: Your friends, children, family and collegues may
not share all your views, but they may be against hunting. If they
are, they need to take (legal)
action too! The 'Countryside' Campaign relies on people who don't hunt but have
vague feelings
on the issue taking part in
their campaign. That's where the 400,000 come from. We need to ensure that
those with
vague feelings on our side put
those feelings into practice too

If we don't do this now, when will get another chance? If you don't do this
now, when will you ever do anything?

Please, let's end this countrycide. FOR FOX SAKE BAN HUNTING!
