From The Shropshire Star (2/10/04)
"Many readers will have an opinion on hunting following the appalling violence
and intimidation we have witnessed since the Hunting Bill. What your readers
may not realise is that the motives are far more sinister than simply preserving
an outdated barbarism
'The Free Church of Country Sports' is said to be set to challenge the hunting
ban on the grounds that hunting is their religion and pro-hunt leaders are
calling for bloodsport junkies to campaign not on hunting but on other key
issues in marginal Labour seats.
While I have not always agreed with this Government, I am deeply concerned that,
having lost the battle on animal cruelty, the hunting fraternity now seek to
have a class war, toppling Labour and challenging equal opportunities
legislation. This kind of 'dirty politics' can lead only to problems,
destroying the very fabric of our democracy. Whatever our opinion on hunting,
the democratically elected members have spoken. Anyone who cares for our
freedom, equality and society should now join animal campaigners in ensuring
this ban stays in place.
Robert Mound, Shropshire Animal Action"
