Dear Friends
Marks & Spencer is stocking real fur. This is very disappointing when other high
street retailers such as Top Shop have made a commitment to selling only fake
furs. The M&S garments are made of rabbit and goat fur, which the company deems
acceptable because, in its opinion, they are a ?obyproduct of the meat
industry?. This is no excuse ?" and is not
even true.
Firstly, the fur or skin is a vital part of the value of a dead animal, selling
off every body part is what makes the factory farming and slaughter
industries profitable. Farmers may breed
animals primarily for one purpose, however unless they could sell and make
money from the other bits, it is less likely they would farm them in the first
place.
Secondly, in the case of rabbit fur, some rabbits are farmed specifically for
their fur. ?~Meat?T rabbits are killed at an earlier age with the fur not
considered good enough quality for fashion items, whilst ?~fur?T rabbits are
left for longer, so that their fur thickens.
Lastly, wearing any fur ?" including second hand fur ?" lends support to the
international fur trade and implies the wearer thinks it is ok to kill animals
for fashion. Most people who spot someone wearing real fur will not delve too
deeply into the how, when and where that
particular garment might have been produced or from which animal it comes, they
will simply
register it as fur, and be given the impression that real fur is once again
acceptable.
Marks & Spencer has found itself in financial difficulty in recent times, with
profits lummeting and the brand popularity in steep decline.
Please send a polite complaint to Marks & Spencer - you may want to consider
letting them know that neither you nor your friends or family will be shopping
there until they remove real fur from their rails.

friends and family or, if you go into M&S, pop one in the pocket of the fur
items on sale, you might put people off buying them!
Thank you for your support.
