Dear Supporter

By now you will probably have seen adverts for "Race for Life" a fundraiser for
Cancer Research UK supported by TESCO.

You may or may not know that Cancer Research UK funds vivisection experiments.
The following paragraph is taken from
http://vivisection-absurd.org.uk/expose.html and reports to refer to experiments
conducted on behalf of CRC, which merged with other charities to form Cancer
Research UK

"People were paid to kill hundreds of mice every day. They broke their necks by
pushing a pencil at the top of their spine and pulling it apart at the tail;
they also gassed them in groups (6 or 7 at a time). The neonatals (newborn
babies) had their heads cut off with scissors whilst fully conscious."

The following is from the BUAV website
(http://www.buav.org/medicalresearch/cancer.html)

"In one study at a CRC laboratory in Oxford 66 pigs had their lungs damaged by
exposure to x-rays.25 At Bristol University CRC-funded research has involved
infecting South American monkeys (Cottontop Tamarins) with a cancer-causing
virus.26 The ICRF, who, like the CRC, are members of the pro-vivisection lobby
group the Research for Health Charities Group, also fund work at hospitals and
universities. For example in one study rats were deliberately given stomach
ulcers and treated with drugs known to damage the stomach.27"

Anyone who remembers Race for Life from last year will know that when you tell
people you don't support CRUK you instantly become the most evil person who ever
lived. It can be difficult to explain the pointless nature of vivisection when
faced with the emotional blackmail of CRUK supporters.

Therefore, I thought SAA could recommend some alternative charities to donate
sponsor money to. They all support cancer victims or research, but do not
support animal experiments (according to BUAV). Why not suggest donating money
to these charities when asked to sponsor someone? That way you don't need to
explain that you DO care about cancer victims, but you also care about animals.
Let's make this a race for EVERY creature's life.
