The Dark Side of Dairy
The farming of animals for meat has received much public attention and scrutiny
over the past few decades moving millions of people towards a vegetarian diet.
Yet the farming of cows for dairy products, which has become increasingly
intensive, has been largely ignored.
Our new report The Dark Side of Dairy lifts the lid on modern dairy farming,
shattering its benign image and exposing the immeasurable mental and physical
suffering inflicted on millions of cows and their calves every year. Fully
referenced and full colour, the report is an easily digestible and informative
overview of Britain's dairy farming industry. Copies of the report are available
for £2 each (incl p&p).
We have also produced a full colour dairy leaflet which is available free of
charge. Perfect to distribute to friends, family and colleagues or to put on
display, it sheds new light on the life of the modern dairy cow and shows why
the 'white' stuff isn't the right stuff!
These eye-catching materials will be available on our new website
http://www.milkmyths.org.uk <
http://www.milkmyths.org.uk/> very soon!! In the
meantime please visit

September: Britain goes Veggie Month
Get involved - it's not too late!
The response to our first veggie month has been phenomenal. Lots of you have
been in touch offering your time and energy to get the positive message that
going veggie saves lives - lots of them!
We have worked out that the average person in the UK eats 4022 animals in their
lifetime - a horrific thought! However, if we turn it on its head that means
that every single person who decides to ditch meat because of your actions means
you are helping to save the lives of thousands of animals!
We have loads of exciting free new materials: our colourful, eye-catching 4022
posters (pictured) and door-dropper leaflets; leaflets on scrummy veggie
recipes, veggie nutrition and the lives of farm animals; and much more.
Find out how you can get involved in this exciting campaign here

Kick off with Becks!
Population figures for kangaroo have crashed. There are now 28 million
kangaroos fewer in the areas used for commercial hunting than just three years
ago. Despite this, a further 3.9 million animals have been earmarked for killing
in 2005, a drop of only half-a-million on 2004. Read more here
<
http://www.viva.org.uk/mediareleases/pr2005/05-38kangaroos.htm> .
The shocking figures of this new and potentially disastrous population crash led
to Viva!'s findings being published in the Sunday Times, the Daily Express and
the Star. We are determined to crush this barbaric industry, the backbone of
which remains the manufacturers of football boots, led by Adidas. That's why we
are once again asking David Beckham to put his ethics before profits and ditch
the kangaroo shoes once and for all.
Please help us make him see sense by sending his management a polite email with
just one click here <

Incredible Veggie Roadshow Comes to Oxford!
Oxford will be getting a dose of fruity flair as The Incredible Veggie Roadshow
hits on Saturday, 10 September 2005!
Find out more about it and see the full list of shows here
<
http://www.viva.org.uk/roadshows/plymouth.html> . If you can offer us help for
any shows - we would especially like to hear from you if you can help publicise
the event locally by putting up posters or handing out invites, or if you can
help out on the day itself - please get in touch <mailto:
angie@...> .
It's incredibly rewarding to see so many people interested in vegetarianism and
the shows have proved so busy so far that we really need all the help we can
get!
School Speakers Training in Manchester and London
Becoming a school speaker of the most effective things you can for the animals!
That's why in September Viva! is organising two of its highly successful school
speaker training days.
Speaking to teenagers in schools about vegetarian issues is a truly uplifting
experience! You have an attentive audience that is genuinely sympathetic and
open-minded. It changes attitudes, changes lives and lays the vital foundations
for a cruelty-free tomorrow. It is also one of the most rewarding things you can
do.
Find out more about these exciting events here <

Get ready London, here comes The Incredible Veggie Show!

This email alert reaches thousands of people but we'd like your help to make it
even better. At the moment, we have just one list of addresses which means that
we have to send the same email to everyone. From time to time we'd like to let
people know about things happening in their area or get in contact with our
younger supporters but we don't want to fill everyone else's mailboxes with
information that isn't relevant to them. What we'd like to do is compile email
lists separated into different regions so that if we do have something we'd like
to tell people in Scotland or Yorkshire about, we can send them the information
without bothering anyone else.
The simplest way for us to identify which area you live in is to know your
postcode and so we'd be grateful if you could take a minute to fill in our
online questionnaire <
http://www.timetogoveggie.com/emailconfirm01.php> . We'd
also really like to know your age if you're under 18 - you can fill in your date
of birth on the form. You won't receive any postal mailings (unless you want
them and fill in your other details) and the information will be used only to
sort your email addresses. You don't even have to give us your name if you don't
want to.
As ever, if you would like any more information about any of our campaigns,
check out our website www.viva.org.uk <
http://www.viva.org.uk/> or get in touch
with us directly - contact details at the top of this email. Please don't click
"reply", however - your email won't be seen at that address.
Thanks again for all your support.
Note: Viva! does not forward emails from other sources or supply email addresses
to other organisations. The only emails you receive as a result of being on this
list come directly from us. Viva! has full and current virus protection.
