URGENT ACTION: Save Tracy the turkey

GWR, a Bristol based radio station, has taken a female turkey named Tracy from a
local farm and are planning to auction her off to the highest bidder to raise
money for charity. There is currently a debate on what Tracy's future should be:
should they eat her or save her? We want to save Tracy from the Christmas table
and persuade GWR to give her to us, so we can give her a happy home in the
country where she can live out her natural turkey days.

We've already been interviewed on the show, and have widened the debate out to
talk about the 28 million turkeys who are needlessly killed in the UK each year
- a third of those on the run up to Christmas alone. We have said on air that
the best way to save animals is not to eat them, and GWR have put our delicious
Christmas Celebration Feast <http://www.viva.org.uk/christmas/index.html> on
their website.

It doesn't matter if you're not from Bristol. It'll only take a minute to help
us save Tracy by sending GWR an email. Compose your own or simply use our
pre-written one. Details here
<http://www.viva.org.uk/campaigns/turkeys/tracy.htm> .

New Documentary Exposes the Horror Behind Christmas

Your Christmas table may be free of any meat, but sadly, for a huge amount of
households, the time associated for peace and goodwill means a death sentence
for tens of millions of animals. Viva! has been working behind the scenes with
the makers of Channel 4's recent Supermarket Secrets to help lift the lid on
this festive bloodbath (in a program due to go out on December 19th). Through
expert undercover filming we will play a part in exposing the barbaric
conditions that most farmed animals endure during their short, miserable lives.
Our duck footage used in the earlier documentary shocked millions of viewers,
and we know that this type of exposure can change people's eating habits - and
by doing this can save countless animals.

Viva! Rocks London!

It was billed as the biggest veggie event ever held in Europe and, boy, did it
live up to that billing! The Incredible Veggie Show was an unprecedented
success, with nearly 5,000 people being counted through the doors by the close
of the day.

With over 90 exhibitors representing every aspect of a vegetarian and vegan
lifestyle; oodles of delicious free veggie food; celebrity cookery demos; talks
by leaders in their field and an abundance of good company, a grand time was had
by all!

The Show was the grand finale of Viva!'s phenomenally successful Incredible
Veggie Roadshows. The shows have attracted 25,000 visitors in total, drawing in
existing veggies, those looking to make a switch to a more compassionate
vegetarian lifestyle and those simply looking to cut down on their meat
consumption. Pledges from visitors to change will potentially save the lives of
over 2 million animals!

Read more about the day here
<http://www.viva.org.uk/mediareleases/pr2005/05-45london2.htm> - and watch this
space to see if the Incredible Veggie Roadshow is coming to your town in 2006!

Viva!'s Fantastic Festive Feast

For Viva!'s Christmas fundraising meal this year, we wanted supporters and
friends to enjoy a delicious vegan meal in beautiful, historic surroundings ....
and where better to do so than the Banqueting Suite at Bath's Guildhall?! If
it's good enough for the Queen (who did lunch there back in May 2002), then it's
darned as hell good enough for us!!

The meal will take place on Sunday 18 December from 1.30-5pm, beginning with a
short presentation by Viva!'s founder and director Juliet Gellatley, followed by
a 3-course lunch (with wine) and celebrity speakers. There'll also be the
opportunity to buy a wide range of Viva! merchandise, in time for Christmas!

To find out more (and to see what's on the lipsmacking menu!) see here
<http://www.viva.org.uk/xmasmeal.html> . To book tickets - priced £52.50 - email
angie@....

Give Kids in Africa a Green Christmas

Sadly, many well meaning, but misguided people are still 'sending' an animal to
poverty stricken people in the developing world. Whilst thinking they are
helping alleviate suffering they are potentially aggravating it: as the crops
that have to be grown to feed the animal could much more beneficially used to
feed the people and their children. However, there is a real alternative: the
charity HIPPO. HIPPO It provides emergency relief for the hungry in the less
developed world but just as importantly it encourages people to grow their own
food - not meat or dairy but plant protein.

If you want give a gift to the developing world this Christmas, please consider
donating just £10 to help build an irrigation system at a vegetarian orphanage
in Kenya.

This email alert reaches thousands of people but we'd like your help to make it
even better. At the moment, we have just one list of addresses which means that
we have to send the same email to everyone. From time to time we'd like to let
people know about things happening in their area or get in contact with our
younger supporters but we don't want to fill everyone else's mailboxes with
information that isn't relevant to them. What we'd like to do is compile email
lists separated into different regions so that if we do have something we'd like
to tell people in Scotland or Yorkshire about, we can send them the information
without bothering anyone else.

The simplest way for us to identify which area you live in is to know your
postcode and so we'd be grateful if you could take a minute to fill in our
online questionnaire <http://www.timetogoveggie.com/emailconfirm01.php> . We'd
also really like to know your age if you're under 18 - you can fill in your date
of birth on the form. You won't receive any postal mailings (unless you want
them and fill in your other details) and the information will be used only to
sort your email addresses. You don't even have to give us your name if you don't
want to.

As ever, if you would like any more information about any of our campaigns,
check out our website www.viva.org.uk <http://www.viva.org.uk/> or get in touch
with us directly - contact details at the top of this email. Please don't click
"reply", however - your email won't be seen at that address.

Thanks again for all your support.

Note: Viva! does not forward emails from other sources or supply email addresses
to other organisations. The only emails you receive as a result of being on this
list come directly from us. Viva! has full and current virus protection.
