March & Rally Against Live Exports a Huge Success!!
Many thanks to those of you who joined us in Dover on 6th May to voice your
disgust at the resumption of live calf exports. Over 800 people turned out,
undeterred by the pouring rain, and we were greeted by cheers of support as we
marched through the town centre calling for an end to live exports. You can read
more about the demo here <
http://www.viva.org.uk/campaigns/cows/may6th.htm> .
Most people in the UK are against live exports, but few realise it is their
desire for cow's milk which fuels it. By door-dropping our Confined to a Crate
leaflet you can help alert compassionate consumers to this fact - and now is the
ideal time to do it. To order leaflets contact
oriel@...
'Cruel Britannia' Campaign Exposes UK Pig Farms
Tired of the British pig industry's claims of high animal welfare, we visited
10 UK pig farms over the past five months and have produced a new video of our
findings. Chosen entirely at random, the units exposed are typical of UK pig
farms generally and reveal a picture of filth, overcrowding, dead and dying
animals and widespread neglect.
Accompanied by our new 'Piggles' mascot - complete with plane and flying helmet
- we will bring our 'Cruel Britannia' campaign to high streets across the UK
this summer. Using a body-worn TV screen to air our shocking footage, we will
urge shoppers to 'Join the fight for pig freedom - don't eat 'em!'.

Jake's Story Reaches Thousands
Last month we told you about Jake's Story
<
http://www.viva.org.uk/campaigns/ducks/jake.html> , a heart-breaking short
online film, telling the story of one little duckling's short life on a factory
farm. Thanks to you, thousands of people have now watched the film - and most
importantly - passed it on to family and friends. The wider it reaches the more
people take notice, and are encouraged to do the most powerful thing they can do
to end the suffering of animals - go veggie!
If you haven't already, please Watch Jake's Story
<
http://www.viva.org.uk/campaigns/ducks/jake.html> and then send our special
e-card to everyone you know. This story deserves to be heard.
Incredible Veggie Roadshow comes to York!
Viva!'s Incredible Veggie Roadshow will be rolling into York on Saturday 3rd
June 2006. We will be visting the city soon to entice the locals - as ever,
headed by our fruity Carmen Miranda lookalike!
A brilliant free family day out, there will be cookery demonstrations, talks,
veggie stalls, competitions, cruelty-free fashion, beauty products, vegan food
products, books, information and campaign news. And free nutritional advice will
be available all day.
Viva!'s roadshows were a huge success last year when they visited 12 cities,
where average attendance was 1,400. The year culminated in Europe's largest-ever
veggie event at Wembley Conference Centre - The Incredible Veggie Show - which
had an incredible 5,000 visitors. A third of those attending the shows were
meat eaters looking for help in cutting down their intake.
Find out more about it and see the full list of shows here
<
http://www.viva.org.uk/roadshows06/york.html> . If you can offer us help for
any shows - we would especially like to hear from you if you can help out
publicising the event locally by putting up posters or handing out invites, or
if you can help out on the day itself - please get in touch
<mailto:
angie@...> . It's incredibly rewarding to see so many people
interested in vegetarianism and the shows have proved so busy so far that we
really need all the help we can get!
Fancy a Free Trip to the States?
A major TV production company has approached Viva! to see if any of our
supporters would be interested in taking part in a new show for Channel 4. They
are looking for people involved in animal rights - individuals or families - who
want to meet USA relatives for the first time.
If this sounds up your street, then you can apply here
<
http://www.twentytwenty.tv/applications.aspx> , or contact Greg via email
<mailto:
gregfrost@...> or phone him on 0207 284 2020 for more
details.

Your Viva!City
This email alert reaches thousands of people but we'd like your help to make it
even better. At the moment we have just one list of addresses which means that
we have to send the same email to everyone. From time to time we'd like to let
people know about things happening in their area or get in contact with our
younger supporters but we don't want to fill everyone else's mailboxes with
information that isn't relevant to them. What we'd like to do is compile email
lists separated into different regions so that if we do have something we'd like
to tell people in Scotland or Yorkshire about, we can send them the information
without bothering anyone else.
The simplest way for us to identify which area you live in is to know your
postcode and so we'd be grateful if you could take a minute to fill in our
online questionnaire <
http://www.timetogoveggie.com/emailconfirm01.php> . We'd
also really like to know your age if you're under 18 - you can fill in your date
of birth on the form. You won't receive any postal mailings (unless you want
them and fill in your other details) and the information will be used only to
sort your email addresses. You don't even have to give us your name if you don't
want to.
As ever, if you would like any more information about any of our campaigns,
check out our website www.viva.org.uk <
http://www.viva.org.uk/> or get in touch
with us directly - contact details at the top of this email. Please don't click
"reply", however - your email won't be seen at that address.
Thanks again for all your support.
Note: Viva! does not forward emails from other sources or supply email addresses
to other organisations. The only emails you receive as a result of being on this
list come directly from us. Viva! has full and current virus protection.
