Dear Supporter
Welcome to February
Firstly, it is important that we all remember Jill Phipps, who died under a
lorry carrying calves to their death, Mike Hill, the hunt sabateur who died
while saving foxes, and Vicki Moore, a Southport anti-bull fighting campaigner
who died of consequences of injuries she received from a bull.
It is also the month that groups of men and women from across the country get
together with their lurchers and greyhounds so that they can bet money on how
well the dogs chase, catch and kill a hare. Often the hare is caught, alive,
between the jaws of the two dogs.
The 'FA CUP' of this 'sport' is the Waterloo Cup, held every year near
Southport. Around a thousand hard core animal abusers gather on the Leverhulme
estate. They are subject to a national animal protest, which this year will
take place on Tues 24th. This is a weekday, but if you can spare the time, it
is an important demo, very much in need of support. If anyone is free and able
to go up, please let me know so that campaigners can share transport.
If going up to Southport's not your thing, don't worry, the Harecoursers are
coming to us. On 6th Feb they'll be ocursing in Enville near Bridgnorth, then
on 20 they'll be at Bryn Y Pys near Wrexham. Because these are week days and
many of us are at work, we won't be organising demos. If you are free on one of
those days, however, and think you might be able to help with some information
gathering, please email me back.
PLEASE BE VERY CAREFUL. IF YOU THINK FOXHUNTERS AND VIVISECTIONISTS ARE
VIOLENT, YOU'VE NOT MET HARECOURSERS. Please don't organise your own impromptu
demos, unless you can be certain of getting a few hundred and a lot of police
with you, or unless you favour suicide.
There's a lot more coming up in the next few months which won't be quite so
dangerous...so please watch this space.
