Veggie Month Success

Thank you so much to everyone who was involved with this Britain Goes Veggie Month. It was a fantastic success and we were overwhelmed by requests for door-dropper and stall packs. We’ve also had lots of info requests from new veggies and vegans. So well done to all of you and thank you for your wonderful work – we couldn’t do what we do without you.

BBC Kills Baby Animals – Complain Today!

Kill It, Cook It, Eat It is the BBC’s supposed attempt to bring the public’s attention to the realities of slaughter. Animals are killed in front of an audience, then butchered and cooked.

The last series was a totally sanitised, unrealistic version of the process and we’ve no reason to believe this series will be any different. Find out more and how to complain here.

Full-Time PR Officer/Assistant Editor

A fantastic opportunity to work for Viva! and the Vegetarian & Vegan Foundation in an important position and be part of a team dedicated to saving animals, improving the nation’s health and persuading the world to go veggie.

Viva! actively campaigns for animals, is high profile and going from strength to strength. Our sister group, the VVF (which shares the same offices), is the UK’s premier health charity.

You will have a minimum of two years experience within journalism or PR. However knowledge and experience in both areas would be highly beneficial. As PR Officer/Assistant Editor you will promote Viva! and VVF mainly to the public and supporters via the media and the written word in both in-house and external publications and web sites. You will assist in every aspect of the production (including writing and sub-editing) of our magazines - Viva!LIFE and Veggie Health; and edit our youth mini-magazine, Viva!ACTIVE.

Your role will also be to promote the work of both Viva! and VVF primarily through media relations. You will originate and edit other staff members’ media releases. Your remit will also include improving the quality and impact of our communications and you will help quality approve all copy (including spelling, grammar, sense and adherence to our beliefs).

You must have fabulous writing abilities along with a sharp creative flair. With an excellent command of English you must also have strong project management abilities along with second to none communication skills. It is essential you work efficiently, accurately and obviously have a healthy respect of deadlines!

Based at our Bristol headquarters. More details and application form here (or call Julie Cook on 0117 944 1000).

Closing date: 12 December 2007.

Britain’s Going Foie-Gras Free!

York councillors have voted to ban the sale of foie-gras in York. This is fantastic news and we’re confident that the rest of the UK will soon follow suit. But we need to keep up the pressure! We will be running a foie-gras Day of Action on December 15th. Details will be coming shortly. Plus, keep an eye out for foie-gras on your local menus. For more ways you can help click here.

The Incredible Veggie Roadshow comes to
Leeds!

Christmas with Viva!

The Viva! Christmas dinner has become a bit of an institution and is a great chance to meet like-minded people, eat a delicious meal, hear some fascinating celebrity speakers and help raise some cash. For more info and booking click here.

Help Us to Help You…

Have you eliminated eczema, arrested acne, cured your constipation or livened up your libido by simply changing to a veggie diet? Have you noticed a huge improvement in your health after going veggie or vegan? If so, the Vegetarian & Vegan Foundation would love to hear from you. The VVF would like to include your story in their colourful and informative magazine, Veggiehealth. We also want to hear your story if you are already veggie and have spent time in hospital. Was the provision of vegetarian or vegan foods satisfactory? Let us know and we may be able to improve things; we have already persuaded one health authority to introduce wholemeal bread and increase the number of vegetarian options.

We can only change things with your help, contact us at info@... or post your story to VVF, Vegetarian & Vegan Foundation, 8 York Court, Wilder Street, Bristol BS2 8QH.

Your Viva!City

This email alert reaches thousands of people but we’d like your help to make it even better. At the moment we have just one list of addresses which means that we have to send the same email to everyone. From time to time we’d like to let people know about things happening in their area or get in contact with our younger supporters but we don’t want to fill everyone else’s mailboxes with information that isn’t relevant to them. What we’d like to do is compile email lists separated into different regions so that if we do have something we’d like to tell people in Scotland or Yorkshire about, we can send them the information without bothering anyone else.

The simplest way for us to identify which area you live in is to know your postcode and so we’d be grateful if you could take a minute to fill in our online questionnaire. We’d also really like to know your age if you’re under 18 – you can fill in your date of birth on the form. You won’t receive any postal mailings (unless you want them and fill in your other details) and the information will be used only to sort your email addresses. You don’t even have to give us your name if you don’t want to.

As ever, if you would like any more information about any of our campaigns, check out our website www.viva.org.uk or get in touch with us directly – contact details at the top of this email. Please don’t click “reply”, however – your email won’t be seen at that address.

Thanks again for all your support.

Note: Viva! does not forward emails from other sources or supply email addresses to other organisations. The only emails you receive as a result of being on this list come directly from us. Viva! has full and current virus protection.
