I've found the best way to control this is to use the 'moderate new members'
option
go to the group main page, click on:
- management (on left)
- messages (on right)
- posting & archives - click on edit
- change moderation to new members
most of the spam comes from people sending junk mail as soon as they join,
this stops them, as it goes to you for approval.
obviously you can ban individuals, but they just use another email address
next time.
the only oddity is that yahoo don't say how long 'new' is...
