This evening a representative from Shropshire Animal Action had a very
interesting talk with the manager of The Punch Bowl, a pub near Bridgnorth which
is hosting a talk by Bloodsport Celebbrity Barry Todhunter, to raise money for
the Wheatland Hunt. Normally, when we make such calls, we get a polite (or not
so polite) response and have the phone slammed down on us. The Punch Bowl were
very much the other way however. They politiely listened to our reasoning, and
indeed agreed with most of it. They were unaware of the pickle they were
getting themselves into. Crucially, our rep was told, they may still cancel it
if they are presented with information which shows what the hunt are capable of.

SAA explained to the manager that the Blencathra Hunt, at which Barry is
huntsman, is very controversial. Indeed it had been named by the LACS in a
report into hunts breeding foxes. In addition to this, a famous video of a
hound shaking a fox by the stomarch was filmed at Barry's hunt/ Barry gave
evidence to the Burns enquiry and has quite a following in the hunting world.

The manager explained that he did not like foxhunting, hand had been told that
this was simply a do organised by the hunt, not a money spinner for fox
torture.. He explained is charging the hunt £16 per person for their meal,
which means they are making £2 profit from each entrant. They can fit over 100
people, so they could easily raise hundreds of pounds. When we explained the
situation, the manager was very alarmed and said that, if he were sent
information with which he could confront organisers, he would consider
cancelling,

IF THE PUNCH BOWL DROP BARRY, THEN NOT ONLY DOES IT STOP THE HUNT RAISING MONEY
- IT WILL SHOW THE HUNT THAT THEY ARE NOT THE UNIVERSALLY ACCEPTED MASTERS OF
CREATION THAT THEY THINK THEY ARE.

The manager confirmed that he had already had several letters - but they clearly
didn't explain the situation clearly enough. Thank you everyone who has
contacted him, but please, please let's push it again. WE CAN GET THIS SHOW
CANCELLED

Please send as much information as you can gather on hunting, especially the
Wheatland & Blencathra Hunts. Send leaflets, letters, press cuttings and
videos. Please be polite and to the point. Telephone too, politely asking him
to cancel. Ask everyone you know to do the same.

For the foxes that the Wheatland chase so many times a week, let's get this show
cancelled.
