Viva! National Dairy Day of Action – 1 March 2008

Still Time to Get Involved!

We have had a phenomenal response to calls to join our latest Day of Action! There is still time to get involved, but please hurry so we can get your materials to you in time for the 1 March (the day before Mother’s Day). We aim to confront consumers with the reality of dairy production – which means that no dairy cow will ever have a happy Mother’s Day because her calf is ripped away from her repeatedly just so we can drink her milk. Luckily, we all have the power to break this cruel cycle, but simply saying no to dairy products.

We have produced a new leaflet Mothers Want Their Babies Back! and some excellent simple placard style posters carrying the same message. Order your free materials and find out more about the campaign here! Click here to hear an anti-dairy/pro-cow by a Viva! supporter click here.

Viva! Victory: Fortnum & Mason Drop Duck Foie-gras!

In the run up to Christmas last year, Viva! joined supporters (and our giant duck!) outside London’s luxury goods store Fortnum & Mason. We also contacted the store with evidence of the cruelty inherent in the production of foie-gras – and I know many of you contacted them. The result is that they have now dropped foie-gras made from the livers of ducks, which is great news! It’s a shame, however, that they are still planning to continue sell foie-gras from geese – and we have called on them to stop that as well. If the foie-gras comes from France it means that the geese will suffer the torment of force-feeding.

Help us help Fortnum & Mason drop foie-gras for good. For details of how to contact them and a sample letter click here. To read more about the victory click here.

British Pigs Are Worth It – Don’t Eat Them!

You may have seen in the news that British pig farmers are encouraging shoppers to buy British pig meat to help save the industry and – in their words – ensure good welfare. If you have ever seen any of Viva!’s pig farm investigations you’ll know that welfare comes very low on the list of things that are important to many British farmers. We have filmed on dozens of British pig farms and have found diseases, neglect and suffering as routine. It is little wonder, as almost all pigs in this country are factory farmed, and around 70 per cent of sows are confined to the incredibly restrictive farrowing crate when they give birth.

Viva! is fighting back on behalf of British pigs! Join us by ordering materials to distribute in your local area. To find out more about the reality behind the hype visit www.piggles.org.uk  and see what you can do to help.

Fundraiser for Legal Chicken Liberation

Sunday 23 March, 12 noon onwards, Cowley Club, London Rd, Brighton

In July 2008 Brighton Animal Action has been given permission to spend six days legally liberating 13,500 chickens. In order to ensure we save as many chickens as possible from slaughter they need to raise money and lots of it. They have had lots of offers of homes from all over the country and we need funds to help with the rescue and to transport these chickens throughout the country. Have a scrummy vegan meal and help raise funds for this good cause!

Your Viva!City

This email alert reaches thousands of people but we’d like your help to make it even better. At the moment we have just one list of addresses which means that we have to send the same email to everyone. From time to time we’d like to let people know about things happening in their area or get in contact with our younger supporters but we don’t want to fill everyone else’s mailboxes with information that isn’t relevant to them. What we’d like to do is compile email lists separated into different regions so that if we do have something we’d like to tell people in Scotland or Yorkshire about, we can send them the information without bothering anyone else.

The simplest way for us to identify which area you live in is to know your postcode and so we’d be grateful if you could take a minute to fill in our online questionnaire. We’d also really like to know your age if you’re under 18 – you can fill in your date of birth on the form. You won’t receive any postal mailings (unless you want them and fill in your other details) and the information will be used only to sort your email addresses. You don’t even have to give us your name if you don’t want to.

As ever, if you would like any more information about any of our campaigns, check out our website www.viva.org.uk or get in touch with us directly – contact details at the top of this email. Please don’t click “reply”, however – your email won’t be seen at that address.

Thanks again for all your support.

Note: Viva! does not forward emails from other sources or supply email addresses to other organisations. The only emails you receive as a result of being on this list come directly from us. Viva! has full and current virus protection.
