Stop the Cull!:
Viva! National Rally for the Badgers
Cardiff, June 28
2008. 1pm
outside the Welsh Assembly Building
(Debating Rooms)

(followed by talk, stalls and teas and coffee from 2pm to 4pm at the nearby Future
Inn Cardiff Bay Hotel (Ennistown and Emma rooms)).
Please help
– badgers desperately need us! They are wrongly accused of being the
main source for the spread of TB amongst cattle. The real culprit, of course,
is the dairy industry – whose greed and bad practices are causing TB to
spread like wildfire. Despite Britain’s top scientists telling the
government that a cull of badgers would actually make things worse, farmers
are still calling for their pound of badger flesh. This is madness – a potential
wildlife massacre on an almost unprecedented scale.
The Welsh Assembly have decided that a trial badger cull is to go ahead later
this year. We must try and persuade them to change their minds otherwise the
pro-cull policy could spread to the rest of the UK. It is important that
we stand up for the badgers, and that is why we are organising a peaceful
rally and photo call outside the Welsh Assembly in Cardiff to try and make
them see sense. The more people there the louder the message!
Please join us on the day – we will bring everything you need.
more information and directions.
If you can’t make it on the day (please do
try!), we are also producing a great new door-dropper campaign leaflet that
highlight the plight of the badger and shows consumers the link between
consuming meat and dairy and destruction of our wildlife.
To order leaflets, send emails to politicians and to

Kangaroo Massacre
at Belconnen
Your emails and the international press coverage
Viva! was able to generate won the kangaroos at a disused Australian military
base a temporary reprieve, but now the slaughter has begun of 400 of these
beautiful animals. This follows tireless work by wildlife campaigners in Australia to try and find a
non-lethal solution - from translocating the kangaroos to establishing a
wildlife sanctuary on the base. It seems that money has won out, as the
authorities now say it would be too expensive to move the kangaroos, and it
is reported that the land has been earmarked for redevelopment as housing.
Wildlife always loses out to greed. Please click here
to find out what you can do.
Youth Get Active!

boasts a selection of quizzes, wallpapers, banners and competitions as well
as plenty of advise on how to get involved with Viva!’s latest youth
campaign So Cute. Send the link

such an inspirational veggie. Entrants must be nominated to be in with a

Ecotricity (and help Viva! too)
Ecotricity is an electricity company with a
difference. As green energy pioneers, they are dedicated to building new
sources of renewable energy to fight climate change.
The company take the money their customers spend on
electricity and invest it in clean forms of power like wind energy. What's
more, they're the only green electricity company actually building these new
renewable energy sources.
Over the last four years Ecotricity have invested
£1 in building new wind turbines for every £1 their customers have spent on
their bills – that’s £460 per customer, per year.
As well as protecting the environment you
shouldn’t have to pay a penny more, that’s because with their New
Energy tariff they promise to match the standard price of your regional
supplier. Best of all Ecotricity will also
donate £15 to Viva! for every supporter who makes the switch.
It’s really easy to switch and takes only five minutes.

Your Viva!City
This email alert reaches thousands of people but
we’d like your help to make it even better. At the moment we have just
one list of addresses which means that we have to send the same email to
everyone. From time to time we’d like to let people know about things
happening in their area or get in contact with our younger supporters but we
don’t want to fill everyone else’s mailboxes with information
that isn’t relevant to them. What we’d like to do is compile
email lists separated into different regions so that if we do have something
we’d like to tell people in Scotland or Yorkshire about, we can send
them the information without bothering anyone else.
The simplest way for us to identify which area you
live in is to know your postcode and so we’d be grateful if you could
take a minute to fill in our online questionnaire.
We’d also really like to know your age if you’re under 18 –
you can fill in your date of birth on the form. You won’t receive any
postal mailings (unless you want them and fill in your other details) and the
information will be used only to sort your email addresses. You don’t
even have to give us your name if you don’t want to.
As
ever, if you would like any more information about any of our campaigns,
check out our website www.viva.org.uk or
get in touch with us directly – contact details at the top of this
email. Please don’t click “reply”, however – your
email won’t be seen at that address.
Thanks
again for all your support.
Note: Viva! does
not forward emails from other sources or supply email addresses to other
organisations. The only emails you receive as a result of being on this list
come directly from us. Viva! has full and current virus protection.
