Dear Supporter

You may well know about Jolly's Circus. A few years ago their clown, Sparky,
assaulted a Shropshire Animal Protection Campaigner who was handing out leaflets
in Gobowen. A fortnight before they had threatend protestors and stolen
placards belonging to SAA campaigners in Market Drayton. But enough about the
activists. It's the animals that really matter, and they come off worse still.

JollyWatch, who keep tabs on Jolly's Circus (www.geocities.com/close_jolly/),
visited them in 2002 and noted a very disturbing performance, JW have recorded
evidence of camels left out in the rain near a pub at closing time, a zebra
roaming on frozen and exposed hill and filmed horrid conditions at their Craven
Arms HQ. In addition to this they have received reliable information of animals
kept without water, and a bear kept in dreadful conditions. Last season, Animal
Defenders photographed Ming, a captive black bear, on tour with Jolly's, kept in
the cage in the back of a lorry.

Now, JollyWatch believes Jollys are on the move again. We're expecting their
first performance, in Shropshire, sometime during April.

We know April is a busy month (after all, we've just sent you the calender) but
when Jolly do starting performing, it's vital we take action. If they get one
demo in every location, if every poster advertising their circus is (legally)
removed, if every landlord who hosts the circus receives a phone call or email
from everyone on this email list and letters go to every paper they will run out
of money very quickly, and can return to base, where at least most of animals
get a minimal amount of space. Last year they appeared to cut short their tour
after demos or action in Bridgnorth, Malvern, Worcester, Brecon and several
other visits. This season we want to cut short the tour before it begins.

We normally demonstrate outside the circus on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. If
you think you may be able to make some demos in the next few months email us and
let us know which day is best for you (generally).

Thanks
