Dear Supporters
THIS IS IMPORTANT LOCAL ALERT
Peter Jolly's Circus are back on the road, and they're starting right here in
SAA heartland...Telford.
The circus travel with, amongst many animals, an elderly black bear called Ming.
According to a pro-circus website, she has been with the circus since she was a
cub. Animal Defenders filmed her last year when she was travelling for miles in
a tiny beastwagon. What life is this for an animal which should be free? In
the past few years JollyWatch, who campaign to close the circus, have exposed
various examples of cruelty, neglect and anti social behaviour from the circus.
The circus will be in Wellington from Apr 12 - Apr 18.
Because this is local, because the people who read these emails are the local
campaigners, please don't think that someone else is going to do this for you.
We NEED to make sure that Jolly do not feel welcome, so that they will have
shorter routes and will, eventually, be forced to give up their animals and
switch to human acts. PLEASE could EVERYONE do the following:
Ensure that their promotion is kept to a minium. There are (as of today)
posters in Wellington, Oakengates and Dawley. PLEASE pop into shops displaying
posters and politely explain that the circus is oppsed by every major animal
group, including the RSPCA. Explain about Ming and the other animals and ask
them to remove the poster. JollyWatch and SAA will be writing to every shop we
know has a poster, but we've found that multiple requests often work better.
Please email / call us and let us know where posters are.
Write to the Telford Journal and Shropshire Star expressing your horror that
bears and zebras still tour Britain performing tricks. Ming doesn't always
perform, but she certainly toured with the circus in 2003.
If you can attend a peacful leaflet handout any time during this week, please do
so
Can our supporters in Shrewsbury and Newport please look out for posters as the
circus heads north after Easter.
Again, remember that while the circus is in our area WE are the ONLY people who
can make a difference to these poor animals. Play your part.
